Dracula, Prince of Darkness
Finally received my copy of this DVD-R format copy of Dracula. It took a while to get as it is manufactured on demand (see Product Description), but it was worth the wait. Amazon kept me updated on a regular basis.
As a DVD-R, it has all the features of a regular format DVD. Yes, it is produced by Anchor Bay Entertainment. It is high-quality and the picture and extras are clear with no problems.
This was the first Christopher Lee Dracula movie I ever saw, so it has some nostalgia for me. It is a fine feature; a classy follow-up to the original 1958 Dracula (aka Horror of Dracula). Christopher Lee is menacing and charismatic. The plot is exciting and moves quickly and features some good chills.
Overall, I am pleased with my purchase. I am especially happy that I didn't spend money purchasing a DVD copy on the secondary market.
A Decent Chris Lee Dracula Movie
I know a lot of people rip this movie, but I've got a soft spot for it, as it is the first Christopher Lee Hammer Dracula movie I saw as a kid (on late-night TV). I agree that the "silent" Count deal didn't really work very well - I'm not sure why they decided to do it that way, especially in light of Lee's fine speaking voice, but I think the film is OK overall. You've got the travelers who ignore the warning not to go to the castle (with one of them emploring the others to heed the warning), the typical Hammer castle sets, the creepy manservant, Klove, and the fearless rifle-toting, vampire-killing monk. The running water/rifle shots/crack in the ice thing was a pretty clever idea to destroy the vampire & end the film without the standard "stake-through-the-heart" bit. The quality of the movie on the disc is pretty good, anamorphic widescreen, and the extra disc contains some interesting stuff, particularly some 8mm home movies shot on the set by a brother of one of the actors. It may not be the best Hammer Dracula film, but I think it's essential to any collection.
Dracula Prince of Darkness
This 2 disc set of Dracula Prince of Darkness was of excellent guality. It was shiped in a short amount of time after ordering it.
