Best known for his dark yet fragile first person fictional tales, Jurado now unlocks the door and invites us into his own enigmatic world with an energy and intensity that is all consuming. Close friends and band mates Eric Fisher and Jenna Conrad collaborated on the compositions - some more rocking than Jurado fans are used to, but as intense as ever.

Jurado breaks some more chairs...
After several laid back alt-country/indie releases from Damien Jurado, fans of Jurado's high-watermark album "I Break Chairs" will find much to love with his latest album "Caught in the Trees". While his new album doesn't rock quite as much as I Break Chairs did, it still shares much of the same spirit that was on display on that album. Damien's voice is as pleasant as usual, steel pedal guitar, backing cello's, and even some beautiful backing female vocals courtesy of Jenna Conrad make for an album full of warmth that sounds just perfect as we creep into the Fall season.
There are highlights all over the album, but if you want a quick taste I would listen to "Gillian was a horse", "Trials", or "Predictive Living". If you're new to Damien Jurado, I think fans of Magnolia Electric Company, Hayden, Johnny Cash, and even Elliott Smith could find a new artist to add to your arsenal. Take a chance, I think you'll enjoy what you hear.
Thanks, and happy listening. And by the way, if you don't own "I Break Chairs" add it to your cart immediately.
never disappointing
His cds are brilliant. see him live - it's inspiring and heart breaking all at once. one of my favourite artists to date - his lyrics and the honesty of his voice combine to create beautiful songs that make you think. Definitely worth picking up and having a listen.
quite simply amazing and amazingly simple but as not to say it is...
just that and nothing deep. i admit music is mostly subjective but with that being said, we all find a common denominator and share the feeling of hate, anger, love, disgust, disappointment, longing, dread, pity, fear, sorrow and all the adjectives in between that is life.
the melancholy lyrics are juxtaposed with dark yet somewhat melodic chords and notes that are finger picked in a sort of alternative country folkish indie style.
this is my first album by him, the track "caskets" was what caught my attention upon hearing it one late night on tv.
i was getting sober off heroin at the time and that was just 4 months ago.
it really hit close to home to say the least.
even if you don't listen to this type of genre in music, it's a good listen when you're in the mood for exploring different musical styles or just giving an artist you've never heard of a chance to captivate your mind, body and soul. if you are already open minded about music though, i assure you, you will not be disappointed with this one, well, unless your heart has been torn open so many times it is no longer there... and even then, that's the perfect reason to listen to this album. ;]
peace,
