Crossbows and Catapults
I gave this game to my 6 year old grandson. He absolutely loves it! He and his 4 year old brother play daily. My son also played with this game when he was growing up and loved it.
Great Game - Simple fun premise
We bought the starter set, the Hostage Tower Expansion and most of the other accessory weapons and they all work flawlessly! (The exception is the gatling gun - see my separate review.)The product is made very well and my kids (4 and 9) love to play. As stated by others, it is very simple for my 4 year old to understand so he can play just like the big boys. It does teach dexterity, as well as minimal strategy. Seriously, what kids (boys at least) dont like to knock things down and "destroy." Other good thing is the battles are over in a relatively short period of time. We have the heroscape game which is also great, but the battles there can last over a period of days. In summary, great game - just wish they would put out some more interesting accessories.
A great game for kids and adults!
The best attribute of this game is that kids and adults can both play together and have a blast.
I purchased this for my nephews over Christmas and was able to play a team game - my self and one of my nephews versus my brother and his other son. It was a big hit. All four of us found it very enjoyable. To give you an idea of ages, my brother and I are both around 40. His sons are elementary / middle school aged.
Play notes:
The game does require a fairly large play area. We set up on the floor but found the carpet added difficulty to some of the weapons. The crossbow had to be put onto a book so that it could launch its projectile better. It's just not meant for a soft surface. It definitely works better on a smooth surface (linoleum floor, card table) where the projectile chips could slide across to the enemy territory. I never quite got the hang of the cannon, but was an ace with the catapults. Taking out the enemy catapults early proved to be a good strategy on carpet, until my team lost our catapult and I struggled with the cannon. Both teams fought down to the last couple men.
I've considered buying this to play with adult friends since we love goofy/fun card and board games . It's a winner.
