the bold adaptation is quite noteworthy, but the drastic revisionism(the strained relationship between Holmes & Watson, especially) is rather jarring.

a clever blend of 'Charles Augustus Milverton','the Final Problem', & 'the Empty House'.

adapted from 'the Sign of Four' & 'A Scandal in Behemia' I think this is definitely better than the Granada version.

Ian Richardson's portrayal of charismatic Dr. Bell is riveting.

Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper. classcial & canonical atmosphere.

Watson as a real brain & Holmes as a ham actor, a nice reversion, quite hilarious.

I'll not recommend this unless you have abundant time & money & insatiable desire of Sherlock Holmes movies. the plot is too much melodramatic, acting slightly exaggerated, the sole merit of the production is handsome face of the leading actor(plus luxurious costume?).

Personally, I think this BBC radio drama version beats all the productions ever presented on screen or TV.
