![]() | The Weather Makers : How Man Is Changing the Climate and What It Means for Life on Earth by Tim Flannery
Buy used from: $0.01 This book does a really good job of reviewing currently-observable effects of global warming as well as past history. The only two drawbacks are that it speaks as an authority rather than giving a lot of references and it gets a little political, especially near the end. In general though, this is a very good introduction to the topic.

![]() | Is the Temperature Rising? The Uncertain Science of Global Warming by S. George Philander
Buy new: $24.25 / Used from: $3.76 This is a good book about how climate and the atmosphere work. It's a good book to read for background information and to help avoid misconceptions or faulty ways of looking at things. Only a fraction of this book is dedicated to global warming per se, but it appears to be a book that is well-respected by lay people who are interested in the topic.

![]() | Climate Crash: Abrupt Climate Change and What It Means for Our Future by John D. Cox
Buy new: $11.96 / Used from: $3.58 This book does a good job of detailing the history of Greenland ice cores, including all of the science that went into it. By looking at the cover, you get the feeling that the book is going to have a sensational pay-off at the end, but it really sticks more to the science and only suggests a few possible scenarios. It's worth reading just to be aware of the whole field of ice core research.

Buy new: $19.46 / Used from: $0.96 This is one of many books on the topic and covers pretty much the same information as most.
