Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
its own reward? A slipcovered, paperback set of four stories from the PBS animated series Adventures from the Book of Virtues, based in turn on William J. Bennett's The Book of Virtues, extols four different virtues. Each title is adapted by Shelagh Canning, illus. by Davis Henry, and contains a two-page story-within-a-story: for example, Honesty: Zach's Tall Tale uses the tale of George Washington and the cherry tree. Other titles include Courage: Annie's Race; Compassion: Zach Lends a Hand; and Responsibility: Annie Shows Off. Unfortunately neither the art nor the prose do much to make the morals very lively. The books are also available separately.

From the Publisher
Responsibility. Courage. Compassion. Loyalty. Honesty. Friendship. Persistence. Hard Work. Self Discipline. Faith. Everyone recognizes these traits as essentials of good character. In order for our children to develop such traits, we have to offer them examples of good and bad, right and wrong. And the best place to find them is in the great works of literature and in exemplary stories from history. In this special audio presentation of The Book Of Virtues, William J. Bennett presents a selection from his best-selling anthology of stories that has inspired and instructed readers of all ages from coast to coast. From the Bible to fables to Greek myths, from ancient philosophy to American history to unforgettable words of our nation's leaders, here are the timeless works that will help children understand and develop character--and help adults teach them. A rich mine of moral literacy and reliable moral reference points, these stories will help anchor our children and ourselves in our culture, our history and our tradition--presented in a unique audio program that the whole family can enjoy, and learn from, together.

This Book Rocks!5
This Book Rocks! This is for anyone whos a fan of Adventures from the Book of Virtues.

gret voices, great stories5
My children enjoy listening to a story, poem or two during lunch and on car rides. We especially like "The Selfish Giant" by Oscar Wilde and the selection from "A Christmas Carol" by Dickens. I am definatly going to invest in the first volume! These stories are entertainng and educational in a way no lecture on virtue can ever be.
