For better or worse, when then-journeyman actor-writer Sylvester Stallone created the character of punchy pugilist Rocky Balboa, he did more than offer all the ne'er-do-wells in the world the hope of someday being a contender; he created a cinematic sensibility--perverse optimism in the face of insane odds--that's infected Hollywood films ever since. And if Bill Conti's horn-fanfare theme has become an instantly evocative cliché, it's only because it fit the proceedings so damned well, like a clenched fist in a boxing glove--or a slice of Velveeta on a Ritz cracker. Conti may be no Morricone, but then, when was the last time you heard the theme to Cinema Paradiso played at a wrestling match? --Jerry McCulley

A Soundtrack Nothing Short of Excellent5
From a diehard Rocky fan, this collection of music from the original soundtrack is a must have. Conti's stamp on this made every track golden. If I could add anything to the list, it would be "Summer Madness" by Kool & The Gang - it's the (instrumental) music heard when Rocky powers up the record player, after entering his apartement for the 1st time - in one of the opening scenes. The song is a timeless classic & sets quite a tone to the end of a long day. A masterful job well done on this album, nonetheless!

You Must Read This if you are a Fan4
There is a missing song from the movie that everyone didnt catch. Everyone confuses 'Reflections' as the song that is playing when Rocky comes home after the first fight and pops on a record then goes to the mirror. This is not true.

The song that is playing and is absent from the Soundtrack is 'Summer Madness' by Kool & the Gang'-1974. It took me a long time to track down this song because I knew all these years that was not Reflections playing in that part.

I gave this record a 4 star, but should've gave it a three after figuring out that Bill Conti may have wrote 'Reflections' to sound similar to 'Summer Madness' to maybe avoid putting someone else's song on his complete album. You can make up your own mind on that, but the album is not complete as Kool & the Gang was left off the album. Sorry to disappoint. Now go get that song and complete it yourself as i did.

Wonderful!5
This is a wonderful score. Distinctive, passionate, corny in all the right ways, and downright moving. If you have ever seen the film, or want to buy some really motivating music, Rocky is the way to go. You can just picture the sweat, the blood, the tears... you get the picture.

Overal I highly reccomend this as a significant benefit to anyones CD collection.
