Buy new: $21.99 / Used from: $7.90 L. A. Confidential put Russell Crowe on the map but this film made him a star. I'm still hoping for the proposed prequel Crowe and director Ridley Scott have mentioned on several occasions.

Buy used from: $7.74 Before this film, all Civil War movies felt sterile and civilized (think TNT movies). "Glory" made the audience remember this was a War with it's stark realism. Also an exceptional cast doesn't hurt

Buy new: $38.99 / Used from: $19.41 You have to buy the Godfather as a collection as opposed to individual films. The third may not be the same quality as the first two but I'll take a weak Godfather film over 80% of the films out there

Buy used from: $37.77 This, to me, is THE film classic of all time. It has the romance of "Casablanca", the spectacle of "Ben-Hur", and the saga of "Citizen Kane".

Buy used from: $5.11 This is one of the five best westerns of all time. Eastwood, Cleef, and Wallach dominate their roles and the score by Ennio Morricone is like a fourth character. Sergio Leone's best!

Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $4.29 When people discuss Martin Scorsese's best films, they refer to "Taxi Driver" and "Raging Bull". I enjoy those films but "Goodfellas" is my personal favorite (though I haven't seen "The Departed" yet)

Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $3.93 I have lost track of how many times I've seen this film. If I'm channel surfing, I will always "catch this wave". One of the rare Hollywood cases of an All star cast actually working in a film.

Buy new: $29.99 / Used from: $20.99 The Criterion edition dvd's are always a little pricey but are worth the money. This classic is very difficult to find but worth the hunt.

 | Shaking the Tree: 16 Golden Greats by Peter Gabriel
Buy new: $9.97 / Used from: $3.62 I wasn't a fan of Peter Gabriel's music when I first heard it ("Sledgehammer") but I learned to enjoy it down the road (thanks to songs like"In Your Eyes" and "Solsbury Hill").

Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $3.75 The Use Your Illusion albums are both excellent but not every song is a star and the Lies album is fine but feels like a bootleg. This album is raw power and attitude. (Oh, and the cover album sucked)

Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 Neil Gaiman has one of the most original imaginations I have ever seen. It is fantastic to see his successful transition from graphic novel format to novels.

Buy used from: $72.95 This is the sequel to "Live Girls", which I mentioned in another list. garton is an excellent writer but it can be frustrating when the majority of his work is only available in the limited markets.

Buy used from: $0.43 The novel that introduced me to the works of Steve Gerlach (of which I was lucky enough to aquire two other books). A relative newcomer to the american market but an exceptional find for horror fans.

Buy used from: $0.43 I've enjoyed all of Owl Goingback's novels (though he seems absent of late) but "Crota" was an impressive debut. It's been out of print for awhile but is worth seeking out.

Buy used from: $3.99 I've read a few of Christopher Golden's novels but I have a soft spot for the shadow saga novels. There are four I am aware of but I am always looking for a fifth chapter in the saga.

Buy new: $23.10 / Used from: $6.99 I have enjoyed all of his non-fiction histories of the past few years. Mr. Goldsworthy gets across the facts while maintaining a novel like flow.

Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.08 Another new voice in the horror field (though much of his books are in the small press market). This vicious little tale will keep you glued to the pages long past your bedtime.

 | Moonchasers and other stories by Ed Gorman
Buy used from: $4.14 Ed Gorman is an excellent read when you can find him. This book introduced me to his short fiction but his novels grab you by the throat. It's a crime his books aren't readily in print.

 | "A" is for Alibi (The Kinsey Millhone Alphabet Mysteries) by Sue Grafton
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 I'll admit I have not kept up with her alphabet mysteries (I think the last one I read was H) but they are excellent for fans of the mystery genre.

 | The Hour of the Oxrun Dead by Charles L. Grant
Buy used from: $0.68 Charles Grant is one of the founding fathers of the horror genre. His tales were about atmosphere and imagination. His Ox-run station novels were his signature pieces. Another author worth looking for. (I was sorry to hear Mr. Grant passed away Sept. 2006. He will be missed).

Buy used from: $39.95 The story that not only returned Hal Jordan to life as Green Lantern but was done brilliantly by Geoff Johns. Most resurrection stories fall flat or leave details out but this one did everything right
