| DLP HDTVs. DLP technology comes from Texas Instruments, and is based on that company's Digital Micromirror Device optical semiconductor chip. This is a very fancy chip that has 1.3 million tiny mirrors on hinges-each mirror representing a pixel in your final screen image. The projector shines light on the mirrors, and the computer chip aims each mirror to point the light at specific areas of the screen, or to turn the mirror off and produce a dark spot on the screen. Consumer models shine that projected light through a spinning color wheel which is carefully timed to get the exact right color on the exact right bits of light and out comes a fantastically rich picture. | ||
