Customer Reviews
Healthy, yes. Easy to chew, no.
Like the previous reviewer, I also purchased these snack bars because they don't contain the usual bugaboos: high-fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, artificial sweeteners, etc. However, they're mighty hard to chew. And that's *probably* a good thing.
I'm a hardcore fan of Quaker Oats granola bars, because they're a quick snack and they're heavy-laden with sugar, but they also have the HFCS (bad, bad) and hydrogenated oils (bad, bad, BAD). However, they are easy to chew. I am striving to slowly back away from the QO granola bars because of their unhealthy and lengthy ingredient list.
The Kashi brand snacks are agreeable to the palate and they do have enough sugar for my personal tastes, but I have a couple crowns and I wonder if my over-priced prosthetic teeth can survive this healthy eating experience.
That being said, these are the snacks of choice for long car trips. For one, I'll never pig out on them and two, they're good for the tummy. They provide a little energy boost and they're high octane fuel for this four-layer bio-suit we call a human body.
Beware expiration dates
I have purchased this product in stores before, so I knew I would like it and decided to buy a case. Everything was as expected, but the "Better if used before" date on the case and the individual boxes was February of 2006. Now, I realize that these things don't go bad quickly, but I still think selling something THREE AND A HALF YEARS after the "use by" date is unacceptable. I will hesitate to purchase more food items from Amazon.
Great taste, filling & healthy snack
I keep a box of these in my office - where I might be prone to eat a whole bag of candy with mindless snacking. Instead, one of these Crunchy Kashi bars is the perfect mid-afternoon snack. Like the other reviewers, I am trying my best to avoid the high fructose corn syrup. They still have close to 200 calories (170 for the 2 bars in a package, I believe), so it's not a "free" food for dieters. It should be planned into the daily caloric intakes. Still, it is a far more filling and satisfying snack than most other 200-calorie expenditures. It's really great in keeping me from snacking while fixing the evening dinner. I agree they are crunchy, but not to the dental risk others have suggested. And I think they're yummy. The pumpkin and spice flavor are pretty subdued. For those that like a nutty, "natural" taste, try these.
