Good Oldies!4
I purchased this CD because I never had the vinyl and these Phil Spector songs are not available as digital downloads. Wish I could have gotten the CD when it first came out and saved some money, but I'm glad to have it now. I really like about 4 of the songs on the CD and the rest are just average, but none are bad. The sound quality is not the best, but I guess it's just how these recordings were preserved.

an album to be treasured5
The Best of the Ronettes gives us a grand retrospective of the fine artistry of this girl group. I always liked The Ronettes; and it baffles me as to why a very good album like this should be out of print! I hope that changes soon; and then more people can easily enjoy some really great music from one of the best girl groups ever! The sound quality is excellent and the artwork reflects good judgment.

The track set starts off with The Ronettes doing their hit entitled "Be My Baby." There's something I can't quite verbalize about this ballad that tugs at my heartstrings every time I hear it. It's romantic, very well done and the musical arrangement lacks nothing--it's all THAT good. The melody is stunning, too. The sing and harmonize to "Be My Baby" beyond perfection! "Why Don't They Let Us Fall In Love" is another great love song that The Ronettes sing with all their might; they sound very strong as a group and they harmonize better than most girl groups ever could! The percussion and drums help to embellish the number even more. There's also "Baby, I Love You" which places them front and center as they sing this one up right! The music works wonders for "Baby, I Love You," too. Impressive!

"(The Best Part Of) Breakin' Up" is an adorable song about the joys of making up after a fight with your one true love; they sing this well and the number holds its own very well. "Walking In The Rain" again features love and love affairs as the theme while The Ronettes sing romantically of what their dream lovers would be like to know. Listen also for "Paradise;" "Paradise" gets the royal treatment from this group as they sing this rather sweetly--yet at the same time they convey a certain degree of vocal strength which is a unique combination I rarely hear or enjoy from a girl group.

"I Wish I Never Saw The Sunshine" isn't exactly my favorite song on this album; but it does work well even if it's not my favorite. They sing quite well of the sadness of a love gone awry. The album ends nicely with The Ronettes performing "You Came, You Saw, You Conquered." They sing with a lush musical arrangement and they never miss a beat! The music is a tad too loud on this final number but The Ronettes have such good diction that you'll have no problem hearing them or understanding every word they sing.

Overall, this is one CD that better come back into print very soon! I am very impressed with this single CD retrospective; and fans of The Ronettes will want to pick this up for their collections.

Great job, everyone! We will never forget you!
