Before recording their third studio album in 2002, Baltimore's Lake Trout was a decent if hardly essential band cast adrift on the jam circuit with songs that mixed together acoustic guitars and hip-hop rhythms. But with Another One Lost, the group finally hits its stride, delivering a record with real emotional punch. It surges with creativity, recalling the work of experimental rock visionaries like Radiohead and Mars Volta, and flaunting a set of gripping songs: "Say Something" soars with fractured drums and a haunting harmonica, the potent "Bliss" crackles with dense, menacing riffs, and the chilling title track is built out of scratchy acoustic tones and frontman Woody Ranere's sky-scraping Jeff Buckley-style falsetto. Another One Lost is quite an achievement. --Aidin Vaziri

one of my favorite albums i own
My title says it all. The music is CREATIVE. One thing many bands lack these days. It sounds like 70's rock mixed with newer alternative. If I had to give them a nickname it would be woobie. Because I like my woobie and its cuddly. GET THE ALBUM. GET ALL OF THEIR ALBUMS.
Amazing
Like most newly minted Lake Trout fans, my introduction to the band happened a few years ago, when i got to see them by chance at the Knitting Factory in NYC. Back then I was amazed at the fusion of musical styles the band played: standup jazz bass mixed with electronica and rock guitar, including the quasi inhuman "drums n' bass" live drumming, which i've never heard a drummer do. In 2005 i had a chance to see the band play twice live at the Bonnaroo festival. I was floored again with the myriad of styles the band can play: switching from Pink Floydian psychodelia to all out noise within one song. These guys are truly an amazing bunch of musicians. "Another One Lost" is truly a great CD filled with awesome songs that will leave any fan of Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Pink Floyd and Godspeed you Black Emperor wondering how come you've never heard of this amazing band.
Awesome Live Show
I hadn't heard of Lake Trout until last night at about 10pm, when they took the stage at The Social here in Orlando. They were the second band to play that night, as openers for Pinback. After the show was over, I had decided I like Lake Trout's performance more than Pinback's, the band I went to see in the first place.
I bought their most recent album, Another One Lost, at the show, and though I was kinda dissapointed I didn't hear the rawness and excellence I heard on stage that night, Lake Trout is still an awesome band. I recommend seeing them live any chance you get, you'll be surely entertained.
By the way, their guitarist (Ed Harris if I've deduced the names correctly) is just great...the way he moves is kinda mesmerizing. I have no idea how he keeps the beat moving like a worm like that. But I digress, GO SEE TROUT LAKE LIVE!
