Average customer review:
Bix Beiderbecke's virtuosity and originality with the cornet won admiration from Louis Armstrong and other jazz greats in the 1920s. He played with Paul Whiteman's orchestra in New York before dying tragically at age 28. This definitive compilation (reissued in 1990) has most of Beiderbecke's best work, including his piano classic "In a Mist."

Customer Reviews

i never tire of hearing it5
in this cd i can get almost all the bands in which bix played in,and every melody is music to my hears

A true genius5
I grew up in the same town as Bix, and there is a jazz festival there (Davenport, IA) in his honor. Bix was so revolutionary in his approach, and the only musician with which he can be compared is Satchmo. Louis was an avid Bix fan himself (Ain't nobody sound like him yet). If you want to hear a true genius and jazz revolutionary, get as many of Bix's cds as possible. To paraphrase Hoagy Carmichael, the sound of his cornet is like making love to a woman. Amen!

At the Jazz Band Ball~Bix Beiderbecke5
I had heard about Bix's legendary tone and musicianship, so I decided to check it out for myself. It's all true. Bix plays beautifully. Nice re-mastering job; nice selection of tunes from beginning to end.

The music is happy, happy music. It puts a smile on my face. The fellas in the band sound as if they were having a great time with it. It's hard to imagine that this was the devil's music of its time. There's no soul-searching or deeper meaning to it, other than fun.

Originally, I bought the CD as an exploration into another era, a trip through the time tunnel. Now I can tell that I will be playing it often purely out of pleasure. Nice to meet you, Bix.
