A friend of mine lent me this. I thought, "Great, another new age guru." But I took it to be polite. I gave it back about a year later, after having read it and read it again.

I loved the analogies he used in "Gateways to the Now." Once, as I listened to it, I remember driving through the Columbia River Gorge; and possibly, for the first time, appreciating it without the endless mental commentary about all the horrible things we had done to this majestic river, from building dams to building freeways. Perhaps I should listen to it again!

Pithy sayings appeal to some, and while I enjoyed this book, It was not my favorite. After the Power of Now it felt too simple!

Realizing the Power of Now is done through portals. There are many portals. I do believe his favorite was inner body awareness, which I have always thought was a simplified version of kundalini. It works.

I'm stiil not sure I have experienced my true identity. How could I know such a thing? How could I know there is not something beyond my true identity?

At the beginning of this book, Eckhart Tolle spoke about fame and how the famous were preyed upon by those wanting something from them. His words made me sad, and I wondered if he ever wished he were still sitting on a park bench. By then I was writing “Letters to My Friends: A No Guarantees Guide to Awakening.” I questioned if I should complete it. I did not want to be suspicious of others.
