Just Like the Movies
In the hands of the evil Darth Vader, this lightsaber has sown sorrow from one end of the Empire to the other. Now, it is yours to use as you see fit.
This weapon swiftly extends to more than three feet long with the sliding of a button. The spring-activated blade is made with translucent red plastic. Built-in segments fully retract into the handle, and the blade is illuminated with bands of light.
While it's intended for use against another lightsaber--and not a person or animal--the blade is built from a safer, softer plastic than the durable, hard plastic handle, just in case. The silver and black handle features dynamic accents.
Realistic Sounds
For more than 30 years, Stars Wars fans the world over have been inspired to make their own lightsaber sound effects, but now, the Force Action Lightsaber does it for you. The toy creates the distinctive power-activated "humming" drone that creates anticipation in moments between swings.
This lightsaber also replicates the burst of electricity as the saber turns on and the blade extends as well as the "wave" of the blade as it hovers through the air.
Using the Force
Unlike the lightsabers of the Star Wars movie, the toy doesn't retract with the push of a button. After turning the weapon off, the blade can be collapsed by hand--but be careful not to jam the blade too tightly into the handle.
A couple of times while playing with the lightsaber, the blade did not extend when the power was activated; the sound effects started up, but the "on" button had to be pressed more than once to get the blade out.
The on/off button looks as if it should also control the volume of the lightsaber--but it does not. Parents who get sick of the "humming" can remove the batteries, as the lightsaber requires three AA batteries (not included) for its lights and sounds.
But Vader's Lightsaber wouldn't be half the fun without its glowing arc-wave energy blade, and the red light is especially mesmerizing in the dark.
From the Manufacturer
No matter which side of the Force you stand for, no Star Wars fan should travel the galaxy without their very own lightsaber! This battery-operated version features a spring-activated blade that you can draw at the press of a button. Authentic power-activated "humming" sounds buzz, adding a realistic effect, while a glowing arc-wave energy blade illuminates the way – just like the ones your favorite characters use in the Star Wars movies!

Star Wars Enthusiast
This is a great toy for those who are interested in Star Wars. I bought it for my 6 yr. old grandson and he loves it.
Loads of fun!
Not a lot more to be said than that . . . Just loads of fun, especially if you are a huge Star Wars fan!
Disappointing design flaw.
The problem with this lightsaber wasn't the spring action: that was actually pretty strong. And it was also pretty bright. And the sounds were good. The problem, which we found in both of the ones we bought and returned to Target, was that the blade would not stay out. There is not enough friction between the blade and the black piece where the blade extends from. I think it's due to the kind of plastic used in the blade. So, when you extend out the blade, and it's glowing and humming, and you're ready for the attack, a couple of waves of the blade results in the entire blade falling back into the handle. Not the telescoped part, that's fine. Just the friction fit part between the biggest blade segment and the handle. This is strange, since it doesn't happen with the Obi-wan one (blue) and the green spring-action lightsabers. The best way to see this problem is to extend the blade as much as possible, hold it vertically, then give the handle very small shakes back and forth. The blade will work itself loose and fall back onto the spring in the handle. Curse Hasbro's Darth Vader Spring-Action Lightsaber! As for the other ones in the series: way to go!
