Product Description

Harry Potter Talking Sorting Hat Plush. The Talking Sorting Hat is a medium brown color and is approximately 18 Inches tall. The Talking Sorting Hat speaks the following phrases: # Gryffindor! # Slytherin! # I know... Hufflepuff! # I know just what to do with you! # Hmmm... Difficult, Very Difficult. # Plenty of courage I see... not a bad mind either. There's talent, oh yes, and a thirst to prove yourself... but where to put you? The Sorting Hat is used at Hogwarts to determine which of the four school houses the new students will be assigned. The Sorting Hat originally belonged to Godric Gryffindor and it recites a new introductory song before sorting the new students. In "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" the Sorting Hat is flown into the chamber by Fawkes and provided Harry with Godric Gryffindor's sword; the hat and sword are the only two known artifacts of Godrick Gryffindor.

Customer Reviews

Somewhat entertaining3
I bought this for my son, and even after reading the other reviews, I still purchased it because he really wanted one. True, it does not say "Ravenclaw" and it can not be worn. This is a little annoying, but I expected it after reading the other reviews.
When it came, I wanted to try it out to make sure it worked. The "mouth" on the hat moves, which is cute, and it looks like a great version of the one from the movie. However, the box said batteries were included. They were not, so I spent about 5 minutes trying to see if I was pushing it in the wrong place. Trying to get into the battery compartment took another 5-10 minutes. (My brother did it for me, as I was annoyed by this time)
It was not listed where the button was, and while looking for it, I was afraid I was going to crush the base of the hat.
I am sure my son will like it and that in itself will make it worth it, but it was a complete aggravation. It does not seem to be constructed well, and there are some flaws. Since it is hard to find Harry Potter merchandise I am glad I found this, but it would be a lot better if it had been made a little better.

For the diehard Harry Potter Fan4
Ok it's an overpriced toy. It talks but it repeats the phrases in the same order over and over so there is no surprise as to what it will say when it is your turn to be sorted. But it is a must have for the Harry Potter fanatic (which includes my 9 year old daughter) This was a surprise for her from santa and even though she figured out quickly that it would always say things in the same order she still loved it. It looks just like the one in the movie with the mouth moving as well. I don't regret the purchase as it is a great gift for any true Harry Potter fan.

Fun and yet.... Not3
Being the Potter Fanatic that I am, I just HAD to buy this hat. Appearance wise, it looked great. You can't exactly wear it on your head because there is no hole underneath, it is replaced by the speaker for the hat.

The other thing that was disappointing to me, is my hat does not say RAVENCLAW! It only shouts the other 3 house names. Also, everything that it says, it repeats it in the same order. The reason this was an issue for me is because I bought it to use as a prop for a Harry Potter Halloween Party that I had planned. I wanted to have the sorting hat sort all of my guests into houses. But it became quickly apparant to everyone which house they would be placed in, and there was no Ravenclaw.

It would have gotten the highest remarks from me if you would press the button and the words are said (and shouted) at a random order, and if we could have a Ravenclaw house.
