Amazon.com Review
The Ultimate Visual Dictionary certainly lives up to its name. With a broad scope that covers topics as far-reaching as tempura paint, chemical reactions, and the equestrian saddle, this book manages to attain an inclusiveness that will bring a smile to the faces of even the most die-hard researchers. But though its topical range is amazing, The Ultimate Visual Dictionary's real attraction is ultimately its illustrations; containing more than 5,000 photographs and 1,000 detailed visuals connected to 30,000 terms, it provides a link between words and pictures in a way that few other books can or do. The photographs alone will keep any reader entertained for hours, but be warned: the pictures are presented in such a brilliantly clear and distinct fashion that you may start to believe you're aboard the HMS Alacrity or being chased by a full-grown male lion with a wide-open mouth.

From School Library Journal
YA-A beautiful dictionary that uses more than 6,000 full-color photographs, illustrations, and cross sections to explore most aspects of the natural world: the universe, prehistoric Earth, architecture, and much more. Arranged by subject but indexed in great detail, this volume will be especially helpful in schools supporting large ESL populations.

From Library Journal
In time for the year 2000, DK has updated its Ultimate Visual Dictionary (LJ 12/94). When this stunning visual dictionary was first published, LJ named it one of the best reference works of the year. Covering over 30,000 terms in 270 major entries, it is divided into 14 sections, ranging from prehistoric life to architecture to music. A detailed index provides access to the entries, and the book's beautiful photographs and illustrations make it an enjoyable as well as an educational resource. The updated edition adds 1500 new terms and 22 major entries to the original text; most of the new entries focus on technology and recent events and include visual guides to interactive television, a recently excavated dinosaur named Gigantosaurus, and the new Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain. Inconveniently, though, these additions haven't been integrated into the original material. They appear in a separate section at the front of the book, along with their own table of contents and index; the unchanged text of the original volume comes afterward. Still, this thorough, important tool is recommended for school, public, and academic libraries that do not already own the earlier volume.AMichele McGraw, Hennepin Cty. P.L., MN

Perfect gift for scientific kids5
I have an older version of this book. My 7-year-old grandson loves it. So we ordered the latest for his xmas gift. It's perfect.

Extravagant:exceeding the limits of reason or necessity5
Details the workings and hidden features of items and things of the physical and tactile world that you always wondered about and could not figure out how to identify and enjoy. The Visual Dictionary elaborates the things we see daily and less, with knock-out images and exciting text materials to energize your perspective of the world. The Aminal

Excellent Reference Manual5
I purchased the "Ultimate Visual Dictionary" for my 18 month daughter. She loves books and she loves looking at pictures. Needless to say, she loves this book - even though she can't lift it. :-)
