From the Inside Flap
Team Players and teamwork
Since the first edition of Team Players and Teamwork was published in 1990, there have been significant and often dramatic changes in the business environment in which teams now operate. Teams are now cross-functional, cross-
cultural, and even virtual. As a result, team trust is more vital than ever, and communications technology is critical. With team players often serving on multiple teams, leadership has become more important and more challenging.
In this thoroughly revised and updated edition of his groundbreaking book, Glenn Parker analyzes these trends and shows how his concept of effective teamwork is even more relevant today. The fundamental question remains: What makes a good team player? Parker clearly demonstrates all the ways team players can adapt to today's challenges.
Team Players and Teamwork provides specific, practical tools that will help both leaders
and members identify their team player styleContributor, Collaborator, Communicator,
or Challenger. Parker explains how each style contributes to five key leadership functionsplanning, communication, risk taking, problem solving, and decision making.
With guidelines for personal development and team-building strategies, Team Players
and Teamwork shows how effective teamwork ultimately leads to increased productivity,
reduced costs, improved quality, innovation, better customer service, and more rapid
commercialization of products.

In need of new edition
I read this book as part of a Master's degree program at Chapman University in organizational leadership. It illustrates that teamwork is essential in the late 1980s -- the book has copyrights of 1990 and 1996, still in first edition. At one point the author actually writes, "As we move forward in the 1990s..." While I know the examples should still largely hold true, it lacks credibility for me. After all, we've distinctly moved to a global marketplace with global and virtual teams far beyond the understandings of the 1980s; this book cannot possibly speak to these points in any meaningful way. The most current example I spotted is 1988. Traditional undergraduate freshmen were born that year, so this book must truly appear ancient to undergraduate students.
