Product Description

Any student who has ever: spent too much time doing homework, lost an assignment before turning it in, studied hard for a test and then bombed it, or felt that their parents nag them too much about homework will love this book! SOAR Study Skills is a comprehensive program that empowers students to manage their time, schoolwork, and extra-curricular activities more efficiently. All strategies are easy to integrate into an immediate routine. The four-step program builds upon each strategy to increase students' understanding and retention, while decreasing their homework and study time. This book is appropriate for students in sixth grade and older, parents of all school-aged children, and educators of middle-school thru college.

As the cornerstone to the entire SOAR® System, this book is a comprehensive program that empowers students to manage their time, school-work, and extra-curricular interests more efficiently.

All strategies are easy to integrate into an immediate routine. The four-step program builds upon each strategy to increase students understanding and retention, while decreasing their homework and study time.

SOAR® Study Skills is a core program, addressing basic organizational and strategic learning needs for students. There are some popular study strategies that you will NOT see in SOAR® because they do not meet our criteria for student-friendly.

The three principles that continue to guide the contents of the SOAR® Study Skills Curriculum are the principles for a student-friendly system:

* Strategies must be time-efficient. Strategies must be realistic for students to do, save them time, and reduce as many unnecessary steps as possible.

* Strategies must be effective. We respect teachers' and students time and will not teach anything that does not deliver results.

* Strategies must apply across the content areas. There are many study skills that are useful techniques, but we only select or develop strategies that apply across content areas so that students will clearly understand the appropriate times/settings to use the strategies. This approach empowers students to confidently take more responsibility for their own work and develop a more strategic approach to all of their learning.

Topics Covered:

Time and task-management
Organizing at home & school
Goal-setting
Note-taking strategies
Paper organization
Test-taking strategies

From the Author
I always struggled to earn decent grades in elementary and high school. It took me hours to do homework, I did awful on tests, and I generally felt "stupid." In college, however, I learned strategies that made studying so much easier. All of a sudden, I was earning nearly all "A's" in college...and it was much easier than the mediocre grades I earned before! Since then, I have enjoyed helping other students learn how to do homework more quickly and discover confidence in school.

From the Back Cover
"I forgot my books at school!" "I did my homework, but now I can't find it." "I forgot we had to do that for homework." "It takes me forever to do my homework!" "I do horrible on tests!" "My back hurts from carrying so many notebooks."

Do any of these complaints and excuses sound familiar?

If so, this book can help! SOAR Study Skills is a comprehensive program that empowers students to manage their time, school-work, and extra-curricular interests more efficiently. All strategies are easy to integrate into an immediate routine. The four-step program builds upon each strategy to increase students' understanding and retention, while decreasing their homework and study time.

Excellent Resource5
Soar Study Skills is an excellent resource for students, parents and teachers. It is kid friendly and very practical with clear narrative explanations and relevant worksheets. I highly recommend this book to students of all ages.

Fantastic Study Skills Book5
Susan Krugar is a Certified Teacher with a Master's Degree and is a Reading/Learning Specialist. She developed her own, unique study skills system that includes live and web based classes, educator training, this book and a CD set based on the acronym:

(S)oar
(O)rganize
(A)sk Questions
(R)ecord Your Progress

The S.O.A.R.® Study Skills soft cover book is beautifully designed, easy to use and filled with illustrations and photographs. There are separate introductions for parents, students, educators and students with ADD/ADHD. Family involvement is very much part of the S.O.A.R.® Study Skills program and the author invites parents to read the book with their children.

Readers will learn about task-management, organizing at home & school, prioritizing, goal-setting, note-taking strategies, paper organization, test-taking strategies, homework/project planning, communication & effective skills, reading skills and writing strategies.

The goal of the book is to help students of all ages get better grades in less time. The amount of homework assigned to students is overwhelming but this book can help reduce the time and frustration involved. Unlike other study skills systems I have researched the techniques in this book are meant to be simple and easily implemented.

I was impressed with the quizzes, charts and forms to record goals and accomplishments. These features make the book truly interactive and involve the reader in not only learning but exploring their own learning styles while developing a set of goals for eliminating homework hassles and improving grades.

There is much focus in this book on helping students both at home and at school and I really enjoyed the chapter on interacting with teachers. Students are encouraged to ask questions of their teachers and there is even a clever graphic included in this chapter that shows readers the best place to sit in a classroom!

This is a book that needs to be given to every student of any age and it needs to be a tool that every teacher uses in the classroom. I found the book to be fun and easy to read and I learned organizational skills that I can use in my office today.

Excellent Organization Book5
Although my son is an excellent student, he always had a problem with getting organized and keeping on top of things. I had him read the book and follow Susan's instructions. Over the last year, he never misses an assignment and no more late night catching up on things he forgot to do. I highly recommend this book.
