About the Author
Ian K. Smith, M.D. is a medical contributor to ABC’s The View, a contributing editor at Men’s Health, and a diet expert on VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club.

From AudioFile
Smash bad habits like couch potato syndrome, stress eating, an overly busy lifestyle, and gorging on empty calories, says the popular physician and TV commentator in this short and sweet audio lesson. Although Smith's strategies are not new, his tone makes them sound like fresh discoveries. Further, his framing of traditional ideas makes them stand out amid the cheerleading heard in many weight-loss audios. Credit part of this effect to the author's optimism and youthful speaking style. He's enthusiastic without being intrusive and confident without being cocky. A compact writer as well, he organizes his dieting plan into four phases that are easy to put into practice. The CD has printable recipes from his book. T.W. © AudioFile 2007, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine

Can't seem to commit5
I completed phase I and half of phase II. At the end of Phase I, I lost 12lbs as opposed to the 8-9lbs that Dr. Ian says you will lose. I guess because I worked out almost everyday. It isn't hard to do, you just have to plan out your meals ahead of time. Unfortunately being a sorority girl and in college, I found myself being pressured to do keg stands, play flip-cup, and do beer bongs. So that's where my failure was, and then once I got wasted I found myself eating 3 tacos from Taco Bell. The next day I felt disgusting and guilty for letting myself down and didn't complete the program. I gained it all back. Every time I try and start again, I just quit after the first two days. I find that it was easier to do this program in the warmer months since there was more fresh fruit and veggies. Every time I've failed it's been a cold month (up North), so now that it's warming up again I think it will be easier since there will be a lot more produce for me. I encourage everyone to try it though!

I LOVE this diet!!5
*I just recently had a baby and need to lose about 50 lbs, this is my first diet.*

I read most of the reviews on here before I purchased this and I was impressed with the results others had. I already lost 7 lbs during Phase I (just 9 days) and I feel better already. I also exercise with Tae Bo DVDs. This diet is not hard and you don't have to starve to death. You get unlimited fruits and vegetables (along with several other things he lists), you're allowed to eat Boca Burgers (I prefer the original vegan) and there's tons of information on the web that can help you with recipes and give you ideas to help get through this phase. Some things that have helped me are the Steam bag veggies that you just pop in the microwave for 5-6 min and they are good to go (Asian Medley and the Garlic Cauliflower are already seasoned). Also the Weight Control oatmeal packets from Quaker help. (I eat 2 packs a day). They come in different flavors and are pretty much the same as the regular oatmeal instead of the strawberry and peach flavors that have way more sugar.

Buying fruits like bananas, apples, peaches, etc. that you can just grab and go help me a lot if i wait too long to eat and need something right away. Remembering to eat every 3-4 hours helps a lot as well.

I feel very good about this diet and I'm very happy with my purchase.

You Can Do It!5
I've been on this eating plan for 41 days now. Last I checked, I've lost almost 20 pounds so far. I could have lost more by now, but there is one thing I haven't been able to stick to, and that is exercising. I will be working on that part soon. I ordered this book through Amazon after watching a dose of Celebrity Fit Club. I had the book for about 2-3 months before being "ready" to make a change. If you're anything like me and crave pizza, cheeseburgers, french fries, potatoes, pasta, and steaks, etc. (all that savory, artery clogging food) - you will be up for a challenge. Of course it's not going to be easy. All I dream about is eating a slice of pizza! STILL! But, the difference is, now I am looking forward to reaching my goal weight, just so I can have this little treat. Honestly, I am one of those people who really had no will power when it came to food. I love food. It's a simple, easy to read book. It doesn't give you all the answers, but once you start changing your eating habits and what you normally eat, you will be inspired to do your best, and that will give you the will power you need. I was worried I would relapse into my old ways because of stress from work, and losing a loved one, but so far, so good. Yes, I still crave those other foods (that's the hardest part), but losing weight gives you the motivation to continue with what you're doing and changing that you somehow muster the strength to fight off those food demons! It's worth a try, it really is.
