Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
Grade 6 Up-A book filled with dozens of practical beauty tips, diet and fitness suggestions, and fashion hints. With an emphasis on the natural, the former fashion model guides readers through bad-hair days, fashion faux pas, and the makeup techniques of the stars. Most of the supplies can be found in the home, although some readers may have to make a trip to a health-food store. Throughout, the author encourages readers to appreciate who they are and how they look and to think positively. The layout is enhanced by varied font headings and print shades but there are no illustrations. (Visual learners may have difficulty envisioning the proper application of blush without a diagram to guide them through the process, etc.) Overall, this is a handy book for anyone wanting to experiment with budget-friendly makeup and skin-care techniques.

This is a great time to be a teen. There are more products than ever, individuality is celebrated and accepted, and authenticity is admired. It's also more confusing. With more products, more choices, and fewer rules and guidelines, it's easy to slip from beauty into bimbo.

What's a girl to do? Should I go glam or stay natural? Do I really want to cut my hair? Why did I cut my hair! How do I cover up that zit? I can't go out like that. Why is my tummy so bloated? Am I expecting my period? These are the questions that start around nine or ten and keep going. They last right into your twenties, thirties, forties, fifties, and even longer, but teens have a certain category of beauty that is their very own. No one can appreciate it unless they are going through it. Every generation goes through its own set of beauty problems. Yet, some of these problems carry over from generation to generation-the parent struggle, the not knowing, and the feeling that no one else has ever felt this way.

Surveys have been conducted rating the top three concerns among girls eleven to sixteen. They are appearance, popularity, and self-esteem. Feeling good inside and looking good outside can make life a little easier. It helps by leveling the playing field. You can have fun with beauty, and you can take control of your looks. You and your body, you and your looks can actually become friends.

It is my hope that I have covered as much information as you will need for creating your own style, for feeling comfortable in your unique skin. It's information I certainly needed when I was a teen. I've been working with teen models for a long time and there are formulas and techniques that you can use even if you never step on a runway.

So enjoy the tips, and rather than letting them complicate your life, use them in a way that will bring fun and knowledge.

Inspiring5
Every time i'd pick this up i'd feel inspired and happy even if just 5 minutes ago I was mad or upset. this book has powers to make you feel good and the advice is amazing.

Thumbs up5
This is a great book. I'm glad I finally found it as I have been searching everywhere for it. Amazon is a great source if you're looking for a particular book and you cannot purchase it elsewhere. The book was in good condition and reasonably priced. It also did not take long to deliver. Thank you.

Not that great3
I am John's daughter. I read some of it and the stuff about celebrities was kind of interesting, but I tried the thing w/ putting oil in my hair, and that totally backfired!!! I had to wash my hair like 5 times before I could get it out. So just so everyone knows, it's not completely reliable.
