Editorial Reviews
Review
my favorite things about Janes yoga routine are that you dont need special shoes or clothes, and you can do it in privacy. Jane designed her book for people like me, who are a bit shy about public displays of exercise, yet are eager to reap the workout benefits. Her book also serves as a yoga primer. A Great Way to Start Your Day
A Morning Cup of Yoga is a delightful little yoga book I turn to again and again, give to friends, and suggest to new yoga students. This 80-page spiral-bound, beautifully illustrated book details a 15-minute yoga routine designed for you to do in the kitchen, where a chair and counter are the only equipment required. All poses are done either standing or sitting so you don't even need a yoga mat. It is a great introduction to yoga for those who may be overwhelmed by the idea of going to a public class or think that yoga is too difficult. A Morning Cup of Yoga helps dispel these common misconceptions in a simple straightforward lighthearted way providing exercises that can be done by those of most any age and ability.
I continue to be amazed at how much better my day unfolds when I begin it with this simple, basic yoga sequence. The author manages to touch on all the body parts needing attention from neck to toes, leaving me feeling stretched, strengthened, balanced, and energized. It is a positive way to start the day even if you don't like to exercise.
It is best to fully familiarize yourself with the poses using the book before attempting to incorporate the accompanying CD, that while pleasant, is a bit too briskly paced for those not fully acquainted with poses.
In addition to the short routine, the author provides a "Sip of the Sutras," a concise introduction to the eight-limbed philosophy of yoga and guidance for beginning meditation if you are so inclined.
This book reinforces the belief my favorite yoga teacher espouses and I have come to share - a little yoga done often is better than a lot of yoga done infrequently. If you are looking for an easy way to establish a yoga routine at home and have little time to invest, A Morning Cup of Yoga offers an inviting accessible way to get started.
Just Get it
Been doing this for many years. Its simple, manageable, easy to follow and live with and I highly recommend it for people who go to 2-3 classes a week and want a home practice, or someone who just wants to do a simple home practice.
100% of my days are improved when I start the day with this energizing routine.
Wonderful Book and CD!
I have spent lots of money on yoga books, DVD's, and classes, but I must say that this delightful little book provides the best value of any of them! No, it's not in-depth yoga postures or philosophy, but I found that the text helped me to reconnect with the reasons I became interested in yoga in the first place, and the CD is just great -- short, simple, and to the point. As another reviewer has pointed out, this is a routine that you will actually do. An great way to start your day, and well worth every penny!
