Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review
It goes without saying that if you're taking the GRE you're not really a dummy. But GRE scores are an important part of any graduate-school application--so you need to do your best. Suzee Vlk, long time test-prep specialist and author of several Dummies books, can help. The GRE for Dummies is packed with useful information and strategies to help you prepare for the test. The book includes advice on how to use the book efficiently (Vlk estimates you'll need 31 hours to work through it), review chapters for all three sections of the exam, and two complete practice exams. Vlk also discusses the pros and cons of taking the GRE by computer or with paper and pencil and special advice for those who choose to take the computer-based test. In familiar Dummies style, Vlk includes a handy tear-out "Cheat Sheet" with a summary of the most important information and a "Part of Tens" section with 10 "wrong rumors" about the GRE and 10 relaxation techniques to use before and during the exam. With its witty writing, helpful icons in the margins pointing out important information, and useful vocabulary scattered throughout, The GRE for Dummies makes test preparation easy and relatively painless. --C. Customer Reviews

Very helpful for almost-40 GRE taker5
I found this book to be extremely helpful. I attempted to re-learn math using Barron's and it was incomprehensible at first. GRE for Dummies did an excellent job of explaining most of math concepts you'll find on the GRE. Once I read Dummies, I went back to Barron's and it made a lot more sense. I also thought the verbal test-taking tactics were very helpful. One that really came in handy was making different colored note cards listing similar words so you learn to associate them with each other and with a "positive" or "negative" color. For both verbal and quant, GRE for Dummies provides a lot of explanation for all the practice questions--something that is lacking in other prep materials, especially the practice tests you get from the GRE itself. I would not use this book alone, but it is a great way to get started, especially if you've been out of school for a long time like me. And, it is way more fun to read than the other GRE books!

It's all you need5
A perfectly adequate preparation. Full of helpful tips. Nothing came as a suprise. You don't need anything else.

This Book is a Dummy 1
Probably the worst GRE prep book ever. Get the Princeton review one, and a tutor. This book did not supply adequate or useful information for taking the GRE. In fact, it almost made it seem like the GRE was going to be a piece of cake. Which it isn't. It's not the hardest test ever, but it certainly is not the CBEST. There were not good examples or good strategy advice.

I usually really appreciate this series, so this was definitely a let down.
