Collateral DamageCollateral Damage by H. R. Hertzberg
Buy new: $6.95 / Used from: $0.53
I found this book in an airport. It's the only one the author ever published but it is one of the best spy vs spy novels I've ever read. It follows the lead charicter through exploits in south africa following a plot to finance a terrorist regime by crippling America's nuclear power supply. Very detailed but not to painfully so.
The Burglar in the Rye: The New Bernie Rhodenbarr Mystery (Bernie Rhodenbarr Mysteries)The Burglar in the Rye: The New Bernie Rhodenbarr Mystery (Bernie Rhodenbarr Mysteries) by Lawrence Block
Buy used from: $0.01
Imagine a warm glass of smooth wishey in a comfy pub patronized by familiar clientel. Throw in some witty discourse and humorous mischief... a great read.
The Rum Diary : A NovelThe Rum Diary : A Novel by Hunter S. Thompson
Buy new: $11.20 / Used from: $7.02
For me, Hunter Thompson's best book. A frantic, wickedly fun romp through 1950's San Juan. Zany charicters and dodgy hijinks... It's like a wild summer vaccation.
LullabyLullaby by Chuck Palahnuik
Buy used from: $4.72
A mad-house treck of mishap-witchcraft and echo-terrorism tossed with Chuch Palanuiks signature in-your-face style culmanating in a freak ending no one sees coming. It's a toss up between this and Fight Club as to which is his BEST book, but this is definatly one of my favorites.
Nightmares and DreamscapesNightmares and Dreamscapes by Stephen King
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01
King is almost always a great ride through freaky little stories, no doubt, but once in a while he really does press up truely magnificent work. While most of the short stories in this collection are par for the course a handfull will stick with you and one in particular is maybe one of the best I've ever read.
Last Days of SummerLast Days of Summer by Steve Kluger
Buy used from: $3.05
The story is told in correspance between the charicters. Side splittingly funny! Set during WWII and the preceding years, it follows the mischivious schemes of a young boy as he befreinds a famous baseball player, torments his psychologist, and advises Franklin D. Roosevelt. Touching and devilishly funny.
Void MoonVoid Moon by Michael Connelly
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01
I'm not a huge Michael Connelly fan, but this is a great book. Dark and violent but not gratutiously so. A professional thief eludes a masochistic contract killer. Drags a little here and there but the action makes thr few slow parts are well worth wading through.
The Screwtape LettersThe Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis
Buy new: $10.36 / Used from: $1.49
This book LITERALLY changed my life. A comical, thoughtful and wholesomely insightful examinaion of sin and it's overall affect on us and our relationship with God. As a twist it's told in the correspondance between two deamons. It's a down-to-earth look at the day-to-day trials we all face.
Back Spin (Myron Bolitar)Back Spin (Myron Bolitar) by Harlan Coben
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $1.99
Harlan Cobin's Myron Bolitar series is very entertaining, but this one to me always stood out. All the playfull back and forth and zaney antics coupled with some of his charicter's darker exploits are par for the course (ha!) in this series. But the focus on the freindship of the two main charicters sets this one apart.
Forrest GumpForrest Gump by Winston Groom
Buy new: $11.90 / Used from: $1.95
If didn't know, the book is almost completely different from the movie. Forrest is a far more realistic charicter, not quite as innocent as he is in the film. Not to the detriment of the charicters sweet, simple nature, though. It's the real breezy, funny, thouroughly entertaining oddesy of Greenbough AL's finest.
