I do not understand....5
This just proves the ill attitudes of the general public. So quick to lay judgment. This show is BRILLIANT. And when I'm done watching it always always always leaves me wanting more. Every single comedy I've ever seen has had more dramatic episodes (And now.. a very special Blossom) It makes the characters more real. And the comments above about how it was painful to watch and embarrassing. That is the appeal of Micheal's character. He gets into these positions where he does embarrass himself. Its just in his nature. Just be glad they are not trying to teach you a lesson in the show like so many comedies before them. Touching briefly on a serious issues only to forget about it the next episode. THAT'S Painful..

I love the further development of the characters. And if they made the show be everything you wanted to right now for your quick fix.. they couldn't make anymore of this brilliantly wonderful show.

I cannot wait for next season!

Great, but not Excellent4
In this season we saw quite a bit of change take place from our friends at The Office. With Michael quiting, then starting his own company, Pam foolishly leaving with him, Ryans return, the new boss, the fire, and then the baby...WHEW!! Seems a bit much dosen't it? Frankly because it is. However, with this show being as captivating and funny as it is, at the end of the season we don't feel overwhelmed.... Well, maybe a little. Even with that being said this season is one of if not THE funniest of the seasons to date. Which makes up for the drastic changes that the show has undergone this season. Even with it's flaws it still manages to evoke your sympathy for Michael as he suffers the loss of his soulmate and empathy for Pam as she realizes that although her parents relationship failed the test of time that hers and Jims will. So all in all even with its setbacks this season does a great job of expanding the characters story lines and provide quite a few thrills along the way. And if this season is any evidence, The Dunder Miflinites will be entertaining us for MANY seasons to come

The Only 1

A good season -- but not up to the standard of the previous three years4
Season Five of THE OFFICE was perhaps its least consistent since Season One. There were times when it managed some of the brilliance it flashed so often in Seasons Two and Three, but a number of the episodes were either just ill-conceived or out and out unpleasant. The episode where Michael falls apart during a presentation that Holly's new boyfriend attends (and in which Pam takes over) was one of the most painful half hours I've ever experienced while watching TV. Overall the season just lacked the kind of magic that we saw in previous seasons. There were no episodes as memorable as "Business School" (the episode where Michael lectures in Ryan's business school class, Jim makes Dwight believe that he might have become a vampire, and no one except Michael comes to Pam's art class presentation) or "Beach Games" or "Casino Night." In fact, if I had to list my ten favorite OFFICE episodes, I'm pretty confident that none from Season Five would be on the list.

Not that there weren't some great moments. Absolutely any scene featuring Steve Carrell and Amy Ryan was extraordinary. Had she been a fulltime character on the show the fortunes of the whole season might have turned out differently. They complemented someone so perfectly it was surreal. Their early season rap was one of the best things in the season. Another highlight was Andy and Angela's engagement and the way in which if fell apart, all while she was continuing her sexual relationship with Dwight. But the problem is that there just weren't enough moments like these.

It isn't that I didn't tune in each week with excitement, but the show simply didn't match its previous brilliance. Can it rebound? I certainly hope so. I still love all the characters. I love that they didn't break up Pam and Jim (and it looks like there is going to be a huge change coming for them in Season Six, if the news that they seemed to have received in the season finale turns out to be true). I just want the great moments to return. I want some episodes from Season Six to crack my Top Ten OFFICE Episodes list.
