Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
Grade 4 Up–An encyclopedic view of the primary locations of all six Star Wars films. Logically arranged in the chronological progression of the movies, the text treats the material as if it were truly nonfiction, breathlessly recounting the details of the history and geography of planets such as Tatooine, the home of Luke Skywalker, and the Ewok Village from the final film. While the focus is on settings, some events are covered, such as battles and speeder chases. The book depends primarily on illustrations with some photographs from the films. The artwork has a great amount of detail on each location, and cutaways show multiple levels of such places as the Galactic Senate. The books design shows a good deal of imagination, to the point of including topographic maps like those in National Geographic, with lines and other annotations charting the course of various battles, and makes good use of foldouts. While this title makes for interesting browsing, it imparts more information than casual observers will care to process and is only for rabid Star Wars fans who cant get enough of George Lucass creation.–Tim Wadham, Maricopa County Library District, Phoenix, AZ

Customer Reviews

5 stars or 3 stars - it depends...4
This is by far my favorite series of the DK Star Wars books. The locations and maps are excellent and one can spend hours just poring over the detail in one painting. I've been a Star Wars fan since the age of six in the spring of 1977 and I've always loved the technical aspects os the Star Wars fantasy. This book delivers in spades.

However, this goes for someone who hasn't already purchased, Episode 1 Complete Locations, Episode 2 complete Locations, and Classic Trilogy Complete Locations. As for me, I've already spent $20 per book for the first three and now DK decides to charge $40 (msrp) so I can buy all of it again? Yes, I want the new Revenge locations, as I've mentioned this is a fantastic series, but asking me to spend an additional $20 for material I've already spent $60 on is just poor business.

So, I highly recommend this book for anyone buying these for the first time - 5 stars. For anyone who has already purchased this series in years past - do as I will do. I will buy this book and then return the prior ones to the brick & mortar bookstore (it's ok, I used to manage one of them superstores, they just put it on the shelf and sell it again or return it to DK for credit) - 3 stars to DK for that marketing ploy.

In the end - 4 stars overall.

Exquisite detail and in-depth look into locations like we never before dreamed!5
Prepare yourself.

This book is loaded! The detail on every page is incredible! The artists must have spent several hundred hours on each drawing!

Every single Episode in the Saga is represented, with Episode III being the only one to have not been previously released as a seperate volume. Luckily for me I hadn't seen them before, so all of the content was new to me.

BATTLES:
Naboo, Geonosis, Courusant "space", Endor, Death Star(s), Hoth

CHASE SEQUENCES:
(including maps with paths/routes defined and color-coded)
Endor speeder bikes, Couruscant speeder chase, Pod race, Luke's Dagoba training sequence, Geonosis Dooku chase, Geonosis Droid Factory

DUELS:
Naboo Qui-Gon vs Maul, Mustafar Obi vs Ani, Bespin Vader vs Luke, Death Star II Emperor vs Vader vs Luke

CITIES:
Mos Espa & Mos Eisly & Tosche Station, Tatooine; Tipoca City & Military Complex, Kamino; Geonosis; Couruscant; Grassy Plains& Theed & Otoh Gunga, Naboo; Pau City, Utapau; Mustafar; Polis Massa; Cloud City; Ewok Village, Endor; Death Stars I & II

BUILDINGS:
Theed Hangar; Watto's Junkshop; Anakin's Hovel; Galactic Senate; Jedi Temple; Couruscant Outlander Club; Kamino Military Complex; Geonosis Droid Factory; Geonosis Execution Arena; Palpatine's Office; Wookiee Tree; Mustafar Mines; Polis Massa; Sith Medcenter; Lars Homestead; Ben's House; Mos Eisley Cantina; Death Star; Yavin 4 Massassi Temple; Yoda's House; Cloud City Processing Vane; Jabba's Palace; Jabba's Throne Room; Emperor's Lair on Death Star II; Executor Command Tower

In additon to all the above, you get various Battlefronts, Spaceports, Planet Profiles and Starship descriptions! Every page is loaded with detail, both in picture and words.

While the Jedi Temple Complex is included, unfortunately it doesn't show us where specific events from Episode III happened. Events such as the infamous Jedi slaughter, where we see Yoda and Obi walking up to the pile of dead padawans and corpses all around, or the Younglings' room where Anakin murders the poor children, or even Bail's confrontation with the Clones. One can only guess.

Padme's Apartment is also neglected, as is her Naboo home and vacation spot from Episode II. One location I particularly miss is the Couruscant Opera House, where Palpatinie "seduced" Anakin to the dark side with his story of Darth Plageous. Hopefully we will see an extended edition one day with all of these locales!

Suffice it to say that this book is an absolute steal for this price and a must have for all Star Wars "geeks" who love trivia and details!

A jaw-dropping guide to the vehicles/buildings in Star Wars5
First of all, this book is over 100 pages unlike the per-movie vehicle guides. Once I opened this book, my jaw hit the floor. The detail of the drawings was astounding! These artists (they should be called masters) have toiled for months and they have made one of the best Star Wars guides ever. You can see the battles, the buildings, the cities, the duels, etc. and notice all the little details.

Hands down, this book is AWESOME.
