The Bodum Pavina double wall cooler glass is 21 ounces in size and can be used for cold or warm beverages. Its unique design is appealing to the eye when filled with your favorite beverage. With its double layer of borosilicate glass it appears as though the liquid is 'floating' within the glass. They will not sweat when filled with a cold beverage, so you will not have to use a coaster. The double wall creates a thermal effect, helping to keep your cold drinks cold and your hot drinks hot for longer periods of time. These mouth blown glasses are an exciting product for any home, restaurant and cafe and they are a definite conversation piece. Bodum’s insulated glassware is made from durable Borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is a strong heat-resistant glass traditionally used to make scientific lab glass. Stronger than traditional “soda-lime” glass, borosilicate can be used for everything from drinkware to cookware. Borosilicate glass substitutes boron oxide in place of the soda and lime used in everyday glassware. The boron oxide acts as the glue holding the silicate together. Due to small size of boron particles, the glass is held together tighter, resulting in a stronger, lighter glass. Borosilicate glass doesn’t need to be as thick as traditional glass to be just as strong due to the bonding capability boron oxide. Borosilicate is simply a different type of glass that is resistant to temperature swings and scratching. Because the particles are held together so tightly, borosilicate glass is resistant to temperature swings, In addition to being dishwasher safe borosilicate will not become cloudy over time; you can rest assured that after 1,000 cycles, the glass will be as clear as the day you bought it.

Amazon.com Review
With futuristic looks and high-tech construction, Bodum's Pavina drinkware makes an exciting departure from traditional glassmaking. The walls of each vessel are crafted from two layers of clear glass, creating an optical illusion that the liquid is suspended inside. Softening the look, Pavina's shapes feature smooth, rounded silhouettes. The inner wall also curves slightly away from the outer wall for a touch of understated elegance.
This set of two double wall iced tea/iced beverage glasses serves sun-brewed tea, fruit smoothies, or even a steaming latte with ease. Crafted of borosilicate glass, which is also used to make scientific lab equipment, the pair is exceptionally strong, lightweight, and thermal. The two-layer construction also resists heat and prevents condensation, so no matter what temperature the beverage is, the glasses remain comfortable to hold and safe for any tabletop. Winner of the prestigious European IF Design Award, this 21-ounce scratch-resistant set goes into the dishwasher and microwave. Mix and match Pavina with the Assam and Canteen lines to stock the bar or dining table with a variety of fun shapes. --Kara Karll
Editor's Note: Because the glasses are mouth blown, each one may have slight variations in height, thickness, and weight. Bodum recommends using care when placing ice into the glass to avoid fracturing the inner layer. Do not use metal spoons or place the glass into a crowded dishwasher.
Customer Reviews
far too delicate, pass on this product
Another product that I wanted to love because the idea seemed so good but the functionality did not live up to the design. When an iced tea glass breaks the first time you put an ice cube in it, that is bad design. We lost two more glasses later that first week even though we were being very careful. Of the original four glasses there is only one left and that is because we do not use it. Don't waste your money.
If you want to try the coffee mugs they seem to be much more sturdy. We have had four of the 9 oz Pavina coffee mugs for more than 6 months and none of these has broken even with everyday use.
Bottom line, the 21oz glass is a beautiful product but is not serviceable. I feel as though I wasted eighty dollars and I don't want to see anyone else make the same mistake.
Update: June 13, 2006
My husband took the last remaining glass to work to use there. Within one day of being on his desk the last glass had broken. Again, DON'T buy these unless you don't mind spending $20 for a glass that you will use once or twice before it breaks.
However, the 9 oz version of these glasses are still intact, not one has broken yet. If you want to buy the double wall glasses for the cool factor buy the 9 oz instead and leave the 21 oz version behind.
Extremely delicate!
The Amazon description says that these glasses are stronger and lighter than regular glass, but I disagree. They are certainly lighter, and when you pick the glass up it feels like the glass is very thin. But they are extremely delicate. I ordered two sets. One arrived pre-smashed in the Bodum box even though it was wrapped in bubble wrap, plus the Bodum box was in the Amazon box surrounded by big bubbles. Since these iced tea glasses are so tall, they do not fit in my dishwasher, so I have to hand wash them. Today I had one in the sink to wash, and as I picked up a Pyrex measuring cup it clinked against the edge of the Bodum glass, shattering it. Whatever you do, don't skoal with these glasses! Aside from the breakage factor and the hand-washing factor, they are okay. The smaller glasses that I bought came out of the dishwasher with the regular water spots on them, so that is no different than regular glass. I would like to see if they could stay clear after 1000 cycles, but I don't think they will last that long.
Alternative
For some reason, no one ever mentions an alternative to these delicate glasses. After some serious searching, I found Tervis tumblers. The Tervis is what I was looking for and they work wonderfully. Plus they have a lifetime warranty. Give them a look.
