You don't even need to get up from your camp lounger to operate the Coleman Remote Control Pack-Away Family-Size Lantern. Coleman gave this lantern a remote control that works from up to 50 feet away. This easy-to-operate lantern takes eight D-cell batteries (not included). A fluorescent spiral bulb gives off strong white light so you can cook, read, or just hang out with friends and family late into the night.

very handy
Used this lantern on a recent camping trip and it made life a little easier for my wife and I. The remote is what makes all the difference. We kept this lantern inside the tent and used the remote to light the way prior to entering.
The light output is sufficient enough to read by. There are two output settings, but I couldn't tell the difference between the two.
We've only put about 8 total hours on the lantern so I can't report on the longevity but seems to be well built and could handle some abuse. All in all, I would buy another one if needed.
Leakage of something
Coleman 8D Square Pack-Away Lantern with Remote Control
We used this lantern following Ike when our power was out for over a week.
The only complaint we have is that it leaked a thick liquid that ruined the finish on a dining table - it ate right thru the varnish on the tabletop. We then sat it in a pan and had no more problems with it. Otherwise it was GREAT and safe.
Not waterproof
The lantern works ok but only under ideal conditions. On the positive side, the light is bright. Negatives: remote control works to about half of the advertised 50 ft. But my biggest complaint is that the lantern is not waterproof; fills with water after a rain. After drying out the light will work again, but the batteries get discharged very quickly obviously. Granted, nowhere in the description does it specify waterproof; but what use could there be for this thing other than outside?
