Editorial Reviews

Review

This book deals with teen love, emotions, problems, and how the characters solved these problems. This exciting character novel pits a young teens moral character against a modern day pirate. There is a build up to the treasure hunt that keeps you on the edge of your seat with an exciting ending.

Correcting a misapprehension3
This is not a review of the quality of Pirate's Gold. I wish only to point out that the Aaron Elkin who wrote this book is not the mystery writer Aaron Elkins. This site seems to confuse the two (e.g., offering a twosome of Pirate's Gold and Unnatural Selection (which IS by Aaron Elkins.

Review of Pirate's Gold5
I didn't know what to expect reading a kid's book but I have to admit that 1/2 way through I couldn't put the book down. If I were blind and had someone reading this book to me I would have still been on the edge of my seat until the end. The author's descriptions were very clear and very good. I would love to see 6th, 7th and 8th graders reading this in their literature classes. Lots of learning lessons in this book too! Thumbs up!

Horrendous1
I too thought that I was ordering a book written by Aaron ELKINS. The book is unbelievably bad and appears to be written by a pre-teen whose first language is not English. Real pre-teens could definitely not identify with the odd dialogue and writing style that bounces between stuffy old-fashioned vocabulary and a weak attempt at "modern" slang. I would be appalled for a child to read this and think that all the grammatical and spelling errors were acceptable. Where was the proofreader???
