Who but Ringo Starr could get away with a syrupy lyric like this: "When I look back / It sure was cool / For those four boys from Liverpool?" The wrap-up line is from "Liverpool 8," the title song from the drummer’s autobiographical 14th album: of Rory Storm, of Hamburg, and of John, Paul, and George. Like most Ringo efforts, it won’t win any songwriting accolades, but it can be just plain fun. Teaming with longtime collaborator Mark Hudson and producer Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Starr belies his 67 years with still-solid drumming and an adolescence not far removed from "Octopus’s Garden." Emphasis here should be placed on the barroom request "Harry’s Song," as well as the seductively Spanish "Pasodobles" and a campy, banjo-led "RU Ready." With its infectious chorus--"Someone’s there to catch you when you’re ready to let go"--the latter could be a holdover from the Beatles’ White Album and confirms that, be it 1968 or 2008, when you ask for Ringo, it’s Ringo you get. --Scott Holter

Go Ringo!4
Ringo is wonderful as usual. This recording brings him back to where it all started, which is great for those of us on the other side of the pond.

AWESOME RINGO !!5
Ringo, thanks from a devoted fan who's loved you since 1963!! I still love to hear you sing and wail way on those drums. Please keep recording as long as you can, your true fans will always buy your awesome music. Love & Peace!!!

I love Liverpool too!4
The title song is worth the price of the album. Being a Beatlemaniac, I found the song very sentimental because it reviews Ringo's life. I also had the extreme privilege recently of seeing Ringo perform Liverpool 8 live at his All Staar concert in Radio City. This was one of my greatest experiences besides seeing the Beatles at Shea Stadium back in the day. At least at Radio City I could hear every word (unlike Shea where all we heard were the fans screaming). Ringo puts on a very professional and entertaining show and he sure knows how to pick his All Staars. After being at his concert I certainly had the urge to buy the Liverpool 8 CD and when I went online I was stunned to see the numerous albums Ringo has made since the Beatles broke up. My Ringo has been very busy! He also has a great website. From what I saw at his concert, he still certainly appeals to young and old. Looked like some of the boomers had their grandkids there and they were all having a fab time.
