Editorial Reviews

About the Author
Gemini - the twins.

Most days, Grant was an ordinary fellow with a delicious sense of humor. On other days, he was somewhat of a mystic. Grant was an individualist belonging to no cults or organizations and an opponent of the first atomic bomb. He concentrated on his work in a Greenwich village apartment one day, but was out exploring the mountains and desert of Arizona a few days later. In addition to being a writer, he taught English at Dartmouth and edited HOROSCOPE magazine until he resigned because he was restless. Grant never carried life insurance until shortly before his death in 1951. Then, even his bank loans were covered by life insurance. Grant refused to make appointments for the month that was to follow his death. He joked about this, and told people, "I'll see you then if I am still here."

Customer Reviews

something more than just a cookbook5
You will find a lot of delineations in this book: all aspects and sun-moon combinations are reviewed. But Lewi Grant goes further. He modifies his delineations according to other aspects that can be found in the natal chart. A venus-jupiter conjunction in your radix will differ if your chart has a venus-mars trine as well or a venus-mars conjunction. This is just not a textbook about two planets in aspect, but about different planets in aspect. That's the way delineations should be handled: all aspects are to be seen and interpreted as a chain. Only Lewi Grant seems to understand this....

Classic astrology reference that has stood the test of time5
Grant Lewi is probably the greatest astrology author who ever lived. His two best sellers, Heaven Knows What and Astrology for the Millions, were printed in mid-century yet aren't the least bit outdated. They remain two of the best astrology books in existence. In Heaven Knows What, Lewi does a page on every possible Sun-Moon combination, explaining how an Aries with an Aries moon differs from an Aries with a Taurus moon, etc. His readings are obviously built on his personal observations, not just on theories about what the signs are supposed to be like. They are very unique. The back section of the book explains natal aspects (Sun conjunct Mercury, etc.). As for his quick horoscope calculations, I just ignore them. If you want your chart done, get your chart done.

In Astrology for the Millions, Lewi goes the more traditional route, explaining the effect of the Sun, Moon and planets in all of the signs. His unique style shines through, and he is right on target, which is why he is the best there ever was. If all astrologers were as good as Grant Lewi was, the field of astrology would be a respected field instead of being considered by most as a pseudo-science.

Excellent for the beginner5
The steps in the book are straight forward and extremely easy to follow. You can start doing a horoscope almost right away, and you don't need to know anything about horoscopes to do it. The resulting horoscopes from this book tend to be in detail and accurate. Horoscopes out of a newspaper are no comparison to what you'll come up with. The process of creating a horoscope with this book takes a minimal amount of time. I recommend this book for anybody interested in horoscopes.
