Customer Reviews

More Than A Reference - It Inspires5
You are a writer, and that's why you are reading this review. The same old question, "Can I justify purchasing this book?" I just received the deluxe version of this book, which is the regular book with a year of online access.

You can't justify not buying this book.

If all you are looking for is having your work published in some unknown literary journal, go to the library and check the reference shelf. However, if you are serious about breaking into the real literary, periodical or book publishing world, lay down some cash and bring "2007 Writers Market" home.

Last year's edition might get you into trouble. Old addresses will result in wasted postage. This year's edition will have up-to-date information.

This is a guide. This is not the Bible. When you see a publication you like, take it a step farther and explore the URL. Don't randomly send out your work. Verify they might like your kind of writing. I've made mistakes in this regard, and could've avoided them had I used this market guide in tandem with the web. This guide will help you prepare intelligently.

It leans heavily toward article writings. Writers who have feature articles especially will find this book useful. This is not Writer's Digest's similar guide, "Novel & Short Story Writers Market," aimed at that major genre.

All the info you want is there: who and how and where to contact a publication; what and if they pay; recent authors they've published; tone and flavor; current needs; turn around from receiving an MS to replying. There are lots of little articles you'll find helpful as well.

One exciting aspect of browsing through this is the ideas you'll get realizing the diversity of publications out there. No matter what seemingly esoteric interest you have, be assured there is probably a publication out there clambering for your expertise.

I have already caught myself looking up aviation and motorcycle publications. Although I neither fly nor ride, I am wondering if I still have some ideas for a piece.

I fully recommend "2007 Writers Market."

YOUR GUIDE TO GETTING PUBLISHED4
Back in 1991, I was studying creative writing under a published author. The one thing we learned was to expect an average 70 rejections no matter if were beginners or seasoned pros. So if you write something, and you send it to be published, and it is rejected...DON'T GIVE UP!!!
With that in mind let me say that this book is one of, if not THE most, respected publications in its field. There are literally over 1000 different publishers of various types of material in this huge book. Publishers of both fiction and nonfiction, publishers of books as well as magazine publishers, complete with addresses and in some cases, phone numbers, email addresses, and websites.
This huge publication houses some of the most respected names in writing, which is another bonus of this book. You get "THE BIG BOYS", plus you get smaller publishers. Publishers of religious material, porn, poetry, short stories, novels, history, sports, hobbies, and much much more. Another bonus of this fine publication, is that it has tips for how to increase your chances of being published as well as notes some of the legal aspects of the art.
My first two articles I had printed and PAID for, were the result of sending my material to publishers in this handy guide.
So if you're looking for an publication that will greatly increase your chances of getting published, you need this long time established tool.

Took me from serving cokes to signing autographs5
People always ask me how I went from a Flight Attendant to signing a 3 book deal with a major publisher. The answer is I started with one sale, and that first sale was because of THE WRITERS MARKET. After that first sale, I moved on to bigger sales, in the Magazine Market, which I also found in THE WRITERS MARKET. Then I moved into books. I contacted the publisher first. Then when they were interested I got a literary agent. You can do the same. THE WRITERS MARKET - can change your life. It did mine.
