All the kidding around Doc did on TV was a distraction; he is a great lead trumpet player, and this album is a nice display of his skill and musicianship

Some amazing virtuoso trumpet playing here; ignore the cheesy arrangements and listen to this guy's playing. Mendez was *the* trumpet god of the 40's and 50's.

Not really a trumpet-dominated choice, but T. Blanchard is a player worth knowing. This is a vocal album, several of his others are worth owning as well

Great modern big-band charts and fabulous lead and solo work by one of America's busiest lead trumpet players.

Apparently this is the only album every released by Gozzo under his own name. Though he's a lead-playing hero, I don't think this particular album shows him off that well. Too much of a mishmash and frankly on some tracks he doesn't even sound like himself. I wish I knew the story behind this CD.
