Pedometer
The pedometer I purchased works very well. It is easy to use and lightweight. I wear it around the house and on walks to encourage myself to "take more steps." Just simple, everyday housework, walking upstairs and downstairs, plus a short walk to the post office, amounts to thousands of steps! It's fun to increase the daily total. I want to work up to 10,000 steps a day (I'm at 5000 right now).
simplistic
this is a simple pedometer (my first ever). the clip is VERY secure and that is the main reason I bought it. I had read reviews for other pedometers and they apparently come off easily. This one also comes with a safety cord, but the description doesn't mention that. So far it has been accurate for me. I can count the steps (i.e. 20) and look down and sure enough it has registered 20 steps. I really don't think the accuracy was my main criteria though. I generally wanted to know about how many steps I was taking at work and on my evening walks in the neighborhood. It is perfect for that. I try to do 10,000 steps a day and this is an incentive. The display has your total steps for the day, and your total steps for the period (i.e. for the month). You can reset that as needed (i.e. if you wanted to monitor steps for the week). I REALLY like the fact that this pedometer has your miles walked. Lots of cheaper pedometers don't do that! You can change it to kilometers if you don't use miles. you need to set it up the first time you use it with your height and weight or it won't be accurate. It comes with instructions and an 800 number to call. Because its specific to your height and weight, I don't think you could easily share it with someone unless they were basically your same size. This also has a flip down cover so you can't accidentally hit the reset button. If you look down at suppertime and you've only taken 4,000 steps then you know you surely must take an evening walk that day! It's also handy to measure how long your walk is in miles.
It's working for me.
I'm walking more because of this product.
Previously I'd purchased the one with the favorable review from Consumer Reports. That pedometer may have been more accurate than this one in terms of counting steps, but not having a cover, the buttons kept getting pushed accidentally and resetting making the whole program kind of annoying. Then the brittle plastic broke where you attach it to your pants and I ended up throwing it away.
This one is very sturdy and easy to use. The numbers are large and clear. And the cover keeps the buttons from getting pushed inadvertantly. Works for me!
Who really cares if you are getting a completely accurate step count. The point is just to walk more and I'm doing that.
