Amazon.com Product Description
Slip on this Accutron VX-200 stainless steel men's automatic watch (model 28B82) and you'll feel confident enough take on any task--whether in the office or on weekend adventures. Stylishly appointed for everyday professional settings, it will also stand up to the rigors of recreational scuba diving with water resistance to 200 meters (660 feet). This large round watch is topped by a coin-edged, blue-plated unidirectional rotating bezel with elapsed time markings in silver. It frames a blue dial that's supplemented with large luminous hands (with sweeping seconds hand), large date display at 3 o'clock, and tachymeter readings around the exterior (which can be used to measure time over distance). It's completed by a handsome stainless steel bracelet band that's joined by a fold-over buckle with safety clasp and extender (for wearing over wetsuits). Other features include a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, a screw-back with sapphire exhibition window, and screw-down crown.

An automatic (or self-winding) watch is fitted with a device (rotor) that automatically winds the spring by using the force of gravity. It needs no battery, but it will stop if you have been physically inactive for an extended period of time--as long as you're moving, the watch will stay powered. Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Perrelet invented the self-winding mechanism in 1770. It worked on the same principle as a modern pedometer, and was designed to wind as the owner walked.

Customer Reviews

Great watch for the price.4
This is a great watch for the price. Very easy to read, with a great bracelet. The hands are well designed and properly sized.

This watch is also hackable, which is great. A hackable watch is one where the second hand stops when you pull out the crown to adjust the time. It makes time adjustment much simpler, as you simply stop the second hand at 60, set the minute hand forward, and wait for an accurate clock to catch up, before starting the watch; it makes it easy to set to within 2 seconds or so of actual time.

The watch feels smaller than it is; the bracelet distributes the weight well, and doesn't pull hairs.

The only minor points against are that the clasp is part polished, part brushed metal, which seems a bit odd. The face is a matt-blue; it would be nice to have a brushed metal face, but the matt does aid readability.

Mine gains between 18 and 21 seconds per day, but is very consistent in the daily gain, so I'm sure that after it's regulated it will keep excellent time. This is NOT a criticism of this watch; 3s per day variation in the timekeeping is excellent for a mechanical watch, and for the excellent price of this watch one can hardly expect that the manufacturer would have regulated it.
