Amazon.com Review
This 1-1/2-quart ice-cream maker from Krups creates wonderful homemade ice cream, yogurt, or sorbet. The accompanying instruction booklet has many excellent recipes, such as iced strawberry soufflé and orange sorbet, and the freezing cylinder provides fast service--it only takes 30 minutes to prepare a frozen treat. Use the recipes that are included, or modify a basic recipe with your own additions to create a new favorite frozen dessert. --Julie McCowan
Customer Reviews
Bowl leaked gel.
We followed instructions in the booklet using proper utensils and keeping it clean. I saw a little bubble in the inside of the bowl I thought was something stuck to the side. When I picked at it with my fingernail a gel started to ooze out of the side.
I loved it . . . for a while
When I first got this ice cream maker, I absolutely fell in love with it. Previously I had done the rock salt and ice churning method. This makes great ice cream (usually), but only if you have a good strong armed someone to help out. The Krups machine was easy and the ice cream was consistently good. We made ice cream and ices all summer, every summer (and spring and fall). But over time I've had every problem listed: the bowl leaked gel when not kept frozen; I've replaced the paddle twice (and it's expensive); the lid is now warped and tends to pop off. When that happens, you can't get it reassembled before the edge freezes and makes it impossible for the paddle to turn. When it works, there is a bottom layer of frozen ice cream too hard to get out, resulting in a loss of total ice cream.
Now, my machine must be at least 5 years old. It could be a year or two older. That's pretty old for a little appliance (that's used a lot). If you plan on periodic replacement (and it isn't an expensive machine), it works pretty well for what it is meant for (fast, convenient, and easy ice cream). I myself am going to try a different brand of machine now that too many parts on this one are not working and I have a lot more people to feed. But once upon a time it had been a great love affair.
Gel Leaks
Same problem here. The bowl breaks itself and the gel leaks out. Can't use it anymore. Going to call Krups and see what they are going to say about this.
