Average customer review:Product Description
Renewed interest in laser communication systems has sparked development of useful new analytic models. This book discusses optical scintillation and its impact on system performance in free-space optical communication and laser radar applications, with detailed look at propagation phenomena and the role of scintillation on system behavior.
Intended for practicing engineers, scientists, and students.

Laser Beam Scintillation "Without" Applications
Very disapointed in the book's content. While the authors are extremely knowledgable of the subject matter, they cannot seem to convey the information to the layperson. The book is mostly theoretical and very math intensive. I would have preferred more text and less equation derivation. The first ten pages were good, but beyond that I was lost. Haven't had that kind of math in 20 years. From viewing the Table of Contents on SPIE's website, the chapters appeared to be just what I was looking for. However, there were no practical applications with real world numerical values, only theory. Not for the practical engineer unless you have an extensive math background.
Solid treatment of a broad range of topics
This book provides excellent coverage of the mathematical foundations of a broad range of topics. It is more of a reference book than a textbook in the sense that it does not have worked examples or exercises at the end of chapters, but it does provide extensive lists of references. It requires a math background at about the level of integral calculus.
