Diaper disposal unit, a must have. Do the research and get the one that you think is best and easiest for you to use and to find refills for. I would personally recommend the Diaper Genie II over the Original Diaper Genie, as the original did not eliminate as much of the odors as I would have liked as our son started eating solid foods.

This is a perfect infant tub for the "larger" babies like my son who were born at almost 10 lbs. We used the net for maybe a month, then he was just too big for it, but the tub still worked great without it. This tub is very large compared to other baby tubs, so we were able to use it up until our son was strong enough to sit up in a real bathtub.

Great for bottle feeding new babies. Let's them control the flow by sucking (more like breast feeding) rather than the liquid just running into their mouth, which can cause gagging and lazy feeding/messes. Also work well for transitioning older babies from the breast to the bottle.

A cool mist humidifier can be a sleep-saver when a little one has a cold or cough. You can get a $30-$40 cool mist humidifier at an department store. Or you could get this cute penguin-looking one. I actually don't recommend the "character" designed humidifiers for older babies/toddlers who may think it's a toy. But for pre-crawling babies it may be a functional addition to the decor of a room.

Gotta have the head support for the car seats, even more-so when your baby is very tiny and the car seat seems more like a bucket than a safety device. Again, be aware that these can be very warm and insulate your baby's body heat, so dress/cover them accordingly to avoid overheating especially around their head.

Nail clippers become increasingly important as baby's nail begin to grow and become less flimsy. The most important aspect of baby nail clippers is the grip. Being able to hold firmly to the clippers while "clipping" gently is vital. The clipper we use do not have a "light" on them, but I can see how it would come in handy when trimming tiny finger nails.

Nasal aspirators are an extremely important tool for all parents. They usually send you home with a hospital-grade bulb, which works GREAT, but it gets gross fast. Shopping around for the right one for your baby's nose can be a frustrating task. I found that this Gerber brand nasal aspirator worked the best for my son.

My husband read this book to get ready for the baby, mainly because he had little-to-no experience with infants. Over the first year-or-so there were a few instances where he admitted that he wouldn't really have known what to do if he hadn't read this book. So, I recommend this book for all new father's who are feeling uneasy about handling and caring for a newborn.

A small boombox-style CD player is great to have as your baby starts to sleep in a crib in their own room. It doesn't have to be high-quality sound, as you will be playing it at low volume. You can also get the "clock-radio" type, but will need to cover the LCD display when the baby is sleeping so the light doesn't keep them awake. You can get these for $20 or less at many department stores.
