Customer Reviews
Horrendous to say the least.
This is one of the most insipid, lackluster, unoriginal, and pointless movies ever made! It almost feels like everyone involved in this project didn't even try to make an appealing movie. This is nothing more than a continuation of a tiresome series of films that attempt to cash in on the success of Smokey and the Bandit, which I think is the best film of them all. As for this waste of film stock, Burt Reynolds sleepwalks his way through the entire movie, Jim Nabors is wasted, the other actors aren't given very much to do, the car races are obviously stock footage, the humor is uninspired, and many of the scenes are more dull and lifeless than staring at a wall for two hours. "Stroker Ace" is simply a superfluous film with nothing unique or distinctive about it.
Not bad at all
The main reason I had bought this movie was because my favorite Nascar driver (R.I.P.) Dale Earnhardt and my bf's favorite (R.I.P.) Neil Bonnet are in it. But after I started watching the movie I found it to be funny and loved Burt in that chicken suit! Even though Dale and Neil were only in it for a few seconds I still loved the movie.
One of many nails in Burt's career...
This film (along with the Cannonball Run movies) pretty much destroyed Burt Reyonlds's career. It's a shame, because anyone who has seen Deliverance knows that Burt Reyonlds can actually act. Instead, he wanted to be a "good ole boy", and he did a plethora of airheaded, terrible films like this. Reportedly, Burt turned down the role of the astronaut in Terms of Endearment for this. Now that's depressing!
