Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
This is an energetic, but ultimately mediocre adaptation of the play, directed on Broadway by Tommy Tune. Burt Reynolds is the town sheriff and a regular patron of a local bordello. He wages a public battle to keep it open after it is targeted as the devil's den by a television minister. Charles Durning was nominated for a Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and there are some lively song and dance numbers featuring Dolly Parton as the madame of the Chicken Ranch. However, this becomes bogged down in too many serious moments for it to be more than a lightweight musical comedy. --Rochelle O'Gorman

The worst editing Ever done.1
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas was edited from the original movie. Whoever the editor was, he should congratulated for destroying the the most entertaining
portions of the original movie.
Note: This add did not indicate that it was edited and neither does the DVD folder.
Having opened the DVD, it is nonreturnable.
Amazon should check it's suppliers better...

One of the best purchases I have made.5
I grew up watching this movie, it was the only R rated movie I was allowed to see before the age of ten. It has been almost 15 years since I first saw it, but it still makes me laugh. Dolly Parton is hysterical, and plays the role perfectly. I am not a huge fan of Burt Reynolds, but he is absolutely fantastic in this film. Any household that does not own a copy of this movie needs to buy it.

Wanted to see prior to play4
The little theater is doing a version of this after Christmas so I wanted to see the movie first. If I was younger and could sing I would audition!

But it will be interesting to see how the play compares to the screen version!
