Comedian Dave Attell, host of Comedy Central's Insomniac, knows how to turn wanderlust into an unbroken string of all-night partying. In this Best of Insomniac volume, Attel hits no fewer than five major North American cities using the same game plan: Stake out a comedy club, then prowl the streets for girls to chat up, guys to taunt, bars to close, and assorted weird, weird stuff to see, all inexplicably taking place while most of the continent is taking its beauty rest. The garrulous Attell insinuates his way into late-night karate lessons in New York, ice-fishing in Montreal, a geek-heavy sci-fi convention in Chicago, and the usual blur of human revelry on New Orleans's Bourbon Street. If a random encounter turns into a memory, great; if not, we just move on. Highlights include a dog-friendly pub, fishy initiation rites, and capricious nudity. --Tom Keogh

Kick the Sandman in his sack5
I love the show and the DVD is cool because it's not censored. There's no Hollywood BS, it's just a guy and a camera going around the city, looking for that towns interesting spots and people. When ever Dave Attell does a city he really explores doing a variety of different things. He wont just hit the bars, he'll do stuff nobody would think of like shooting rats with the police in New Orleans.

If you liked the show, you'll really like the DVD.

Good, but not great3
At least 1/2 of each episode is just Dave at a bar, which isn't really all that entertaining. In each episode, there is one really good piece, an ok piece, and the rest you could see yourself just by stepping into a bar in any city. Rent, don't buy.

A good packaging of a great show4
I was a little dissappointed by some of the episodes Comedy Central decided to put on this DVD (say Montreal, as an example). Not that any of the episodes were bad, just there were better episodes a long time fan like myself thought were funnier.

As well it might have been better for Comedy Central to just do seasons on a release rather than a handful of episodes. But Comedy Central seems to have no idea how to do releases of their shows on DVD (save The Man Show).

Either way this is a great show and a nice introduction to the drunken late night subject that is Insomniac.
