Customer Reviews
where's the thrills?
I thought the movie would be a lot more exciting that all the hype made it seemed. I'd put the feel of it along the lines of "The Goonies" and "Hocus Pocus", but not quite as good. Bland humor weighs the plot down, inappropriate language for children even though I think that's the target audience, maybe for it's time it was a classic, but I guess I missed that boat...should've been made more into a scary film, that's what I thought I was going to be watching.
Monster Squad
I had been looking for this movie everywhere for the last 5 yrs and I am so glad to have it now!!! I love this movie. It's a one of a kind. I especially like the sound effects and also the interviews with the now actors. Everyone should see this movie if they like spooky/horror movies. A+++++++++++++ all the way!!
A Jem of a movie
I'm an "80's Child"-and don't even remember this film, however, I read about it in a huge spread in Rue Morgue Magazine last year. I finally got to see and WOW! Can't believe I didn't get to know about this flick sooner.
For an "80's movie about kids--which were popular in that decade: with the likes of The Outsiders, Stand By Me and others, this is the better one--for it touches the surface of horror with familiar and decently re-created monsters from classic Universal Films.
The movie was brilliantly cast with some great acting by the kids and monsters--it so blows away films from that period like Goonies.
The movie was fast paced, had humor, but not in a campy way, great effects for the time it was released and was reminicent but surely not a dated looking film at all (except for the mother's hair--LOL!).
This is a great film for horror-hounds and family viewing (but with a few swear words--but I'm sure this film has less of them in it's 85 minutes viewing vs. 3 minutes spent at any public school playground!)
The special features interviews were cool with a couple of the actors and filmmaker's doing interviews in a new documentary)--I must say, this is one of the better Loinsgate releases in a long time!!! Get this--it's a great 80's "Creature Feature" up there with the likes of Gremlins and ET!!
