![]() | Preacher Vol. 1: Gone to Texas by Garth Ennis
Buy new: $10.19 / Used from: $6.74 F*#%ing...amazing...series...
In the first volume, Ennis does a great job of introducing the characters and the tone that will continue throughout the rest of the Preacher series. Much badassery; not for pussies.
![]() | Preacher Vol. 2: Until the End of the World by Garth Ennis
Buy new: $10.19 / Used from: $7.00 By the time you move on to this volume, you will probably already have been impressed by the first one. And if you thought that was intense, you're in for a treat. This book makes Deliverance look like a children's movie and Batman look like a simpering little bitch who needs to get over his qualms about his past.
![]() | Preacher Vol. 3: Proud Americans by Garth Ennis
Buy new: $10.19 / Used from: $4.95 Volume 3 delves into an international religious conspiracy and some flashback revelations regarding Jesse's father and Cassidy. Still as excellent as the previous books in the series have been.
![]() | Preacher Vol. 4: Ancient History by Garth Ennis
Buy new: $10.19 / Used from: $7.48 Ancient History isn't really necessary to follow the basic storyline of Preacher, but it's certainlly well worth the read. You get to find out how the West was won, what happens when you get stranded in the Louisiana swamp, and the best thing to come out of Nirvana.
![]() | Preacher Vol. 5: Dixie Fried by Garth Ennis
Buy new: $10.19 / Used from: $6.19 Ennis takes a sharp jab at the conventional view of vampires, and some interesting complications arise among the three main characters. While this isn't the best installment in the series, it is instrumental at moving the story along and is still a great read.
![]() | Preacher Vol. 6: War in the Sun by Garth Ennis
Buy new: $12.23 / Used from: $8.75 This volume amps up the intensity. Here you face vengeance, betrayal, even a nuclear weapon. What's not to love?
![]() | Preacher Vol. 7: Salvation by Garth Ennis
Buy new: $12.23 / Used from: $8.97 This is another installment that you don't NECESSARILY have to read to follow the basic storyline, but I highly recommend that you do. The story shifts gears a bit, but that in no way diminishes the great qualities it has in common with all the other volumes. A new setting and a number of new characters are introduced, and the KKK plays a role.
![]() | Preacher Vol. 8: All Hell's A-Coming by Garth Ennis
Buy new: $12.23 / Used from: $8.73 The title is pretty self-explanatory; this volume sets us up for the conclusion. You also get some background on Tulip, and, even more notably, on Cassidy.
![]() | Preacher Vol. 9: Alamo by Garth Ennis
Buy new: $12.23 / Used from: $8.88 Many readers have been disappointed by the end of the series. I am not among them. It has its flaws, to be sure, but it is for the most part a satisfying, masterfully written conclusion to an absolutely wonderful series.
![]() | The Boys Vol. 1: The Name of the Game by Garth Ennis
Buy used from: $13.98 Tangible proof of Garth Ennis' hatred of superheroes. The series so far has proven to be crude, rude, and of course hilariously irreverent. My only complaint is that this volume is so short.
