Many families have created tactile experiences for their children using fabric remnants and other materials inspired by or found on professional products in therapy centers or catalogs.

Sometimes a speech therapist, O.T. or P.T. will use or recommend brushes for the mouth area - ask whether those you can find in the toothbrush area of a local retailer will do as well - or if there is a 'low tech' alternative.

Never take for granted that your child will enjoy or tolerate an ordinary electric toothbrush, or that since they seem to crave one kind they will accept a slightly different replacement. It's just one of those things!

Remember to use a heavy duty ceiling hook for fabric swings, hammocks, bolster swings or other items. No sharp edges should be within twenty feet of the swing, and the floor should be well padded in case of falls. Never leave a child unsupervised in a play or therapy room where there is danger of falling, getting caught up in fabric, rope or chain, or other hazards that may not be apparent.

Be aware of safety issues, use heavy duty ceiling hooks, and expect the unexpected when children are around swings and hammocks. Enjoy!
