The first title in a series, this two-CD package puts kids in the role of teenage detective, Nancy Drew. In this adventure they explore the town of Paseo Del Mar, Florida, where an unpopular student at the high school has been murdered. As they look for evidence at each of five locations, players discover 300 hidden clues and objects, including keys, coins, a bolt cutter, a pen knife and a remote control. Many of the found objects come in handy for solving the case. The program cleverly involves kids in the action: posters in the school and menus in the diner contain encrypted messages that help unravel the mystery, and kids can talk to the murder victim's fellow students by asking series of questions. They can also get help by calling their friends using numbers on their phone card. Games can be saved for later play. We especially appreciated the "second chance" feature that lets you repeat sections of the game later on. For instance, when testers accidentally caused an explosion at the town's diner, they were glad to be able to go back to the segment just before the disaster instead of starting all over again. Some of the weaknesses of the program stem from the fact that it is a two-CD game that uses DirectX 6.0. You can install it via a compact, 40 MB installation, but we found the mouse action to be sluggish. The full installation requires 220 MB which is a hefty chunk for older, smaller hard drives. The disk swapping is frequent but testers didn't seem to mind. There's also a bug in the program that requires getting technical support or a download from the web site. On the whole, the program's strengths outweigh its weaknesses. Girls loved the murder mystery adventure theme and enjoyed exploring the high school, diner and other parts of the town. Even though finding and using the clues and objects was very challenging, they played the game repeatedly. Only one tester has solved the mystery so far and that was with the help of a cheat sheet. The next program in the series, Nancy Drew Stay Tuned for Danger, is terrific.

Amazon.com Review
Nancy Drew is back--but this time as an interactive sleuth. Secrets Can Kill offers stimulating, long-term gameplay with an interesting plot and intricate word games. With all the intrigue, mystery, and adventure you've enjoyed in the Nancy Drew books, this role-playing game provides challenging and exciting computer activities for girls.
In this traditional Nancy Drew mystery, you play the role of Nancy as a junior, senior, or master detective. While visiting your aunt, you become involved in a murder case at Paseo Del Mar High School. You must help the police find the person who killed Jake Rogers--a notorious member of the student body. Through sleuthing with your ever-present magnifying glass, you discover hundreds of clues, each leading to the truth behind the students of the high school.
Secrets Can Kill employs 3-D graphics with detailed animations. Each character reacts to Nancy's specific situations. The intelligence of the game leaves nothing to be assumed--and the creepy music and hazardous situations keep you on your toes. Remember to talk to everyone, and check for evidence in the most unlikely places. With a surprise ending--unless you are the ultimate supersleuth--Secrets Can Kill is a fantastic mystery for girls of all ages. --Madeleine Miller

My favorite
This is absolutely my favorite ND game. I have about 15 of them. We are utter mac people but we keep our last windows for the purpose only of playing ND games. This is my favorite game because of the story line and the endless amounts of clues ( which does get a tid bit tedious but always more fun). The setting at the school is so intricate with so many possible clues that it makes you actually think. I am a die hard ND book and computer game fan (I've read too many to count :) ) and this game is absolutely fabulous.
Warning-Cartoonish Graphics-Don't compare with later games!
If you have played the newer versions of Nancy Drew games, you will be very disappointed with the graphics. The people look like cartoons. The graphics are not rendered in 3D like the rest of the Nancy Drew games.
The plot is good, but the graphics don't compare with the rest.
Look Past the Flaws and this is a really good game.
Okay so this game has 2 discs, that you constanly have to switch out to play the game, and yes the graphics in this game are cerntinly not the best, but so what?!?
Secrets can kill is the first game in the nancy drew seris, so of course its graphics are gonna be horrible, but if you look past the 2 discs switching ,and the 2-D graphics , this game is absoultly amazing!
Our story starts in Flordia, when Aunt Eloise writes to Nancy , telling her that a murder has been commited at Paso Del Mar High School. A guy named Jake Rogers was pushed off a flight of Stairs for no reason and got he face all squished up. But , hang on, was thier a reason? As Nancy asked the students around the campus, she finds out that nobody really liked Jake , and everyone thought he was a "total creep" or "slimeball". Did one of Paso Del Mar High School students commit the crime?!? Find out for yourself in this wonderful game!
And please, look past the 2-d graphics , and the switching of 2 discs. :)
