![]() | The Poet by Michael Connelly
Buy new: $10.17 / Used from: $3.70 Great lead-up to the what turns out to be a disappointing finale.
![]() | The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
Buy new: $9.79 / Used from: $4.98 I have to admit after finally getting around to reading it after hearing what a great book it was, I was ultimately let down. Maybe I had it over-hyped in my head.
![]() | Angels Flight (Harry Bosch) by Michael Connelly
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 I enjoyed the bulk of the novel, but the ending seemed to be tacked on, a throwaway that didn't keep up with the rest of the novel.
![]() | The Scarecrow by Michael Connelly
Buy new: $18.47 / Used from: $4.92 Great to see Jack McEvoy again after The Poet, and I did enjoy the book, but I didn't care for how the whole plot was solved (I can't really explain more without spoilers).
![]() | Night (Oprah's Book Club) by Elie Wiesel
Buy new: $9.95 / Used from: $1.48 Very short, but a very powerful images. Some of the things he described will linger with me for a long time.
![]() | The Strain: Book One of The Strain Trilogy by Guillermo Del Toro
Buy new: $17.81 / Used from: $7.89 I was disappointed with the non-ending, but it does set up book two of the trilogy well.
![]() | Prayers for Rain (Patrick Kenzie/Angela Gennaro Novels) by Dennis Lehane
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 Great novel from a great series
![]() | If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor by Bruce Campbell
Buy new: $10.17 / Used from: $3.98 Interesting behind the scenes look at Campbell's career
![]() | Tishomingo Blues by Elmore Leonard
Buy used from: $9.19 Not sure if my taste is changing, but I've been disappointed with most of the recent Leonard novels that I've read, including this one
![]() | Darkness, Take My Hand (Patrick Kenzie/Angela Gennaro Novels) by Dennis Lehane
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 Another good Kenzie/Gennaro novel, with this one being the second of the series.
![]() | Gone, Baby, Gone (Harper Fiction) by Dennis Lehane
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 One of the few times that the movie is better than the book.
![]() | Free-Range Chickens by Simon Rich
Buy new: $9.36 / Used from: $7.00 This is actually a pretty funny book.
![]() | The Hot Kid by Elmore Leonard
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $0.01 Definitely one of the better Leonard books that I've read recently.
![]() | "A" is for Alibi (The Kinsey Millhone Alphabet Mysteries) by Sue Grafton
Buy new: $10.04 / Used from: $3.98 I actually put this book down halfway through because it lost my interest, but I eventually started up again. There is just too many paragraphs where absolutely nothing happens, so while there is an unbelievable amount of filler, the last half ties things up nicely.
![]() | Killing Floor (Jack Reacher, No. 1) by Lee Child
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $2.59 Even though it is by no means a long book, I found that it took too long to get to where it was going.
![]() | The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride, Book 1) by James Patterson
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $2.74 I actually enjoyed this despite it being targeted at Young Adults (a category which I sadly no longer fit into)
![]() | The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson
Buy new: $13.00 / Used from: $12.80 A great read, definitely high recommended (but read The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo first)
![]() | Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex by Mary Roach
Buy new: $10.17 / Used from: $5.20 I enjoyed Stiff much more than Bonk. While I realize that the subtitle mentions science and sex, the book was too weighed down with too much science. The best parts of the book were interviews with the scientists and subjects, rather than rattling off scientific data.
![]() | A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 1) by George R.R. Martin
Buy new: $10.88 / Used from: $5.30 Great book, but a little long towards the end. Definitely interested in continuing the series, especially as HBO will is adapting the series for TV.
![]() | A Darkness More Than Night (Harry Bosch) by Michael Connelly
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 Easily my favorite Harry Bosch book so far in this series (out of the 8 I've read at this point). It's more of a joint venture between Harry Bosch and Terry McCaleb.
![]() | City of Bones (Harry Bosch) by Michael Connelly
Buy new: $11.19 / Used from: $4.44 A bit disappointing after A Darkness More Than Night, with an especially odd romantic subplot.
![]() | The White Tiger: A Novel (Man Booker Prize) by Aravind Adiga
Buy new: $10.08 / Used from: $4.79 A very enjoyable read.
![]() | Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 A fantastic book for the first 90% of the novel, but the ending is simply contrived garbage.
![]() | Alex Cross's TRIAL by James Patterson
Buy new: $15.97 / Used from: $5.80 Total garbage. This is in no way an Alex Cross book, and his character is in it for the prologue only. The only reason the name is mentioned is to fool Cross fans into buying the book. I honestly doubt that James Patterson had anything to do with this book aside from allowing Cross's name to be used and cashing the cheques for doing so.
![]() | Dexter by Design: A Novel by Jeff Lindsay
Buy new: $14.62 / Used from: $14.01 A huge improvement over the dreadful third book in the series, Dexter By Design gets us back to the quality of the first two books of the series.
![]() | 206 Bones: A Novel (Temperance Brennan) by Kathy Reichs
Buy new: $17.81 / Used from: $7.35 I found that the actual case was the weakest part of this book, with office politics and Brennan's home life being much more interesting (and easier to read, given all of the jargon that goes along with her criminal investigations).
![]() | Deception Point by Dan Brown
Buy new: $11.52 / Used from: $3.77 Far too verbose and trodding for my liking, the actual plot is fine but it takes too long to unfold and has too much scientific jargon.
![]() | The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown
Buy new: $12.00 / Used from: $8.50 What a huge disappointment. The twist was unbelievably transparent, and really should be picked up by anyone who read the book that was playing any type of attention.
![]() | Lost Light (Harry Bosch) by Michael Connelly
Buy new: $10.19 / Used from: $1.45 A departure from Connelly as he writes Harry Bosch in the first person for the first time, but definitely one of the best Harry Bosch novels. Highly recommended.
![]() | The Colorado Kid (Hard Case Crime) by Stephen King
Buy new: $5.99 / Used from: $0.01 A pretty good read, but not for those that need a satisfying ending.
![]() | Blood Work by Michael Connelly
Buy new: $10.17 / Used from: $0.95 Fantastic book. Definitely one of the best Michael Connelly books that I've read.
![]() | The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon by David Grann
Buy new: $16.08 / Used from: $14.46 I was disappointed with the first half of this book, but the last half helped to make up for it. Be aware that only the last couple of chapters deal with the search, as most of the book gives background on Fawcett.
![]() | Lost Paradise: From Mutiny on the Bounty to a Modern-Day Legacy of Sexual Mayhem, the Dark Secrets of Pitcairn Island Revealed by Kathy Marks
Buy new: $19.67 / Used from: $0.01 A good read, and definitely an eye opener, but I found the book repetitive.
![]() | Casino Royale (James Bond Novels) by Ian Fleming
Buy new: $10.08 / Used from: $3.41 A great book. I really enjoyed this, even though I can see why some people found some of the passages objectionable.
![]() | Live and Let Die (James Bond Novels) by Ian Fleming
Buy new: $10.08 / Used from: $5.41 A big disappointment after Casino Royale. If you can get past the rampant racism, the plot just wasn't as compelling as the first James Bond novel.
![]() | Moonraker (James Bond Novels) by Ian Fleming
Buy new: $9.89 / Used from: $2.96 Really entertaining novel, much better than the previous "Live And Let Die"
![]() | Heat Wave (Nikki Heat) by Richard Castle
Buy new: $11.69 / Used from: $12.36 A pretty entertaining light and breezy read, very much in the same vein as the show "Castle", in which the supposed writer of this book is a main character
![]() | SuperFreakonomics: Global Cooling, Patriotic Prostitutes, and Why Suicide Bombers Should Buy Life Insurance by Steven D. Levitt
Buy new: $12.00 / Used from: $12.71 A good read which continues what was started in Freakonomics (although some of the topics were covered better by Malcolm Gladwell).
![]() | God Hates Us All by Hank Moody
Buy new: $10.20 / Used from: $8.94 A really good book, very much in the same vein as the character of Hank Moody on Californication
