Product Description

The 4-minute warm-up is followed by chest work of push-ups, dumbbell presses, chest flys, dumbbell incline chest presses, dumbbell incline flys, and barbell close-grip presses. The tricep work consists of dips, dumbbell lying extensions, dumbbell seated extensions, dumbbell cross-body extensions, a bonus "band burn" of cross-body extensions, dumbbell kickbacks, and another bonus "band burn" of kickbacks. The 4-minute stretch feels SO GOOD after all that! You'lll need a full sized step, adjustable barbell, various weighted dumbbells, and a medium tension resistance band to do this workout.

Great for your Arms!5
I consider myself to be a high intermediate/advanced exerciser. None the less, I had a weak upper body, but my arms were still toned. I was able to do 3 pushups from my toes prior to doing this workout. After about a week, I'd moved onto 9 -- and after a month, I was up to 24. This workout has done a lot for my arms! My arms also firmed up a bit more than they were before (and that wasnt my focus).

Chestwise, I think this workout did a lot for me. It lifted my chest area a bit.

I feel stronger in ways I had never really thought possible. So, as you can probably tell, I LOVED this workout. I'm not as advanced as Cathe! She was lifting some pretty heavy weights! I did just fine and felt my arms burn/get warm and tired with 5 lb weights. I should be moving up to 8lbs soon.

My arms are already pretty toned-- but I can see this exercise as helping out if you're lokoing to keep in shape or get into shape.

This is my first Cathe dvd -- but as an instructor-- cathy is energetic. She's not too hard to keep up with and she gives really great direction as to what you're supposed to be doing-- how to know what sized weights to use.. she reminds you to listen to your body.. etc.

Keep in mind.. this is not cardio-- but it is good for your inbetween days or if you have a ton of energy.. maybe after cardio? This really depends on you. I do suggest doing something to warm up before doing weight training. (I do this dvd once a week one the days I do not do my FIRM dvds).

Now-- This is a GYM STYLE workout. After you learn how to do what Cathe teaches you, you could potentially do the same thing in a Gym. It's not dancy at all. It's right down to business. I usually hate going to the gym for the sole purpose of weight training-- however, for some reason, this dvd really hit the spot for me.

Tough upper body workout....4
This is another installment in Cathe Friedrich's Gym Style series, here the focus is on Chest and Triceps. This workout clocks in at just under 50 minutes, and is extremely thorough in working these areas. Equipment used in this workout are dumbells, barbell, a step or a bench, and a resistance band.

You start with a simple warmup, then you dive right into chest work with drop sets of pushups, 72 to be exact, starting with 16, then 14, then moving down until you get to the last 2 which are done in a 4-4 count. Next you will do several sets of dumbell chest presses and pec flies, first done on a flat surface, then moving into an incline position. Finishing out the chest portion and transitioning into the tricep portion are close grip barbell presses. In the tricep portion you will see tricep dips, lying extensions, seated french presses, cross body extensions which are done with one arm and in a lying position. She also uses a resistance band for these too add a "bonus burn", following this are tricep kickbacks, again adding a bonus set using the band to finish them off. This set has a nice variety of exercises, plus she uses various tempo counts to keep things interesting.

Overall a very complete and thorough workout for the muscle groups represented, this one is bound to really shape up the upper body as the previous reviewers have stated. There are also premixes with shorter options on those time crunched days which is a nice plus. Anyone looking for an upper body challenge will not be disappointed here, 4 and a half stars for this one.

Effective & challenging strength training workout!! The best!!5
I've become a huge fan of Cathe's since ordering the Gym Style workouts. (Besides Chest & Tri, there are two more: Back, Shoulder, Bicep and Legs.) Using the step (as a flat bench), barbell, various dumbbells, and a Dynaband medium resistance band, you will get an incredible chest & tricep workout. Cathe starts out with 72 guy-style pushups done in dropsets. Whoa! I consider myself an intermediate exerciser and still can't do all 72 yet, but I'm up to 40. (When I started, I could only do 8.) After just a few weeks of using Cathe's DVDs, I have seen a big difference in strength and the appearance of my arms and also a bit of lift in my chest. Cathe's a great instructor - encouraging but not annoyingly peppy - who gives good advice about form and modifications throughout the 48 minute routine. These exercises really get in and work the muscles. You will definitely feel the burn - but you'll also get results. I highly recommend the other two Gym Style DVDs to go along with this one for a total body strength routine.
