![]() | My Sassy Girl (2001)
Possibly the most beloved movie in South Korea. In the past decade Korea has had a surge of excellent films, and this one is a perfect example of everything that Korean filmmakers do well - humor, mystery, tragedy, sweetness, and ambiguity. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't love (or at least really like) this wonderful film!

![]() | The Classic a.k.a Love Story (Standard Edition) DVD
From the director of My Sassy Girl. A wonderful cast, a beautiful soundtrack, a well paced and engaging story. Actually, I believe this to be one of the greatest romantic movies ever made - from any country, from any time. It's really beautiful and very highly recommended.

![]() | Dil se
Buy new: $7.99 One of the few gems to come out of the otherwise dissapointing Bollywood genre. Stars Shah Rukh Khan before his ego affected his acting, and Manisha Koirala -one of India's best actresses. Contains some truly unforgetable scenes and equally unforgetable music composed by the maestro A.R. Rahman.

Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $5.99 A fun and fresh film from some of India's best. Stars Imran Khan and Genelia D'Souza - two of the best and most beautiful young actors in India today. Funny, sweet, and relatable. Good acting, good music, good script and very entertaining!
![]() | Jab We Met
Yes, it's Bollywood - but it's good! Yes, it's a romance - but it's different! Everything about this movie is good, but it's driven by the wonderful performances of Shahid Kapur and Kareena Kapoor. Unlike in most Indian films, you really grow to care about these characters and their story.
![]() | He Was Cool
This is one of the funniest and oddest movies I've ever seen. I promise that anyone who watches this film - guy, girl, adult, kid - will be so hooked from the first scene that they won't even mind reading the subtitles!
![]() | Amelie
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $7.66 Yes, it's on every foreign movie list. But that's because it's a must watch. Slightly pretentious, but what else would you expect from France?
![]() | City of God
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $3.97 Haven't seen this in years, but I still remember how it made me feel. A fascinating and INTENSE film, to be sure.
![]() | Life Is Beautiful
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $4.54 If you haven't seen this movie yet, you simply must. A comedy about the Holocaust? Yes, I suppose it is. It's also one of the most important films ever made.
![]() | To Live
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $4.09 The epic tale of a Chinese family during the Cultural Revolution - one of the strangest points in history. Extremely well made, sweet, tragic, educational and relevant.
![]() | A Man Who Was Superman (Standard Edition) DVD
The hilarious and meaningful story of a cynical journalist (played by the wonderful and beautiful Jeon Ji Heun) and a man who really believes that he is Superman. Starts off as a comedy, then becomes quite sad, and by the end has a very important message. One of my favorites.
![]() | Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Buy new: $8.49 / Used from: $0.01 One of the best movies ever made, really. It has everything - action, romance, comedy, tragedy, fantasy. The best way to describe this film is that it is like a dream. If you haven't seen it, you really must.
![]() | Salaam Bombay (Widescreen Special Edition)
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $7.18 Probably the most realistic and natural film I've seen. Takes a look at life in the Bombay slums. If you liked "Slumdog Millionaire" but want to know about slum life from a realistic rather than fantastical viewpoint, I recommend this film. It's a classic. It might even change the way you live your own life.
![]() | Jean De Florette / Manon of the Spring (MGM World Films)
Buy new: $15.99 / Used from: $37.42 A tad slow, but this is one of those movies that you just need to see if you are interested in human nature.
![]() | Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
The Indian romantic classic. DDLJ created many of the elements of the romantic film that you see today. It's loved and respected around the world, not just in India. And though it is the most typically Bollywood film ever, it is still a great movie with many unforgetable scenes.
![]() | Earth

![]() | The Chorus (Les Choristes)
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $6.43 This movie is magnificent! It tells the story of a music teacher at a boarding school who uses song to keep his pupils in line. Among many other things, the soundtrack is amazing and the young lead actor is phenomenal. A good, unpretentious French film.
![]() | Yojimbo - Remastered Edition (Criterion Collection Spine #52)
Buy new: $35.99 / Used from: $20.99 This is the only movie from Japan's Golden Age (50's-60's) that I've ever seen, and it was quite the experience. I saw it years ago at about midnight, had no idea what it was, but was determined to track it down after I realized I had just seen a very special movie. It's about a lone samurai who cleans up a crime infested town. Very funny and well made; a great movie.
![]() | Omkara
A sleek, strange and dark Indian adaptation of Shakespeare's Othello. It's the same story, but adapted to a modern Indian gangster setting. A surprisingly good movie. Saif Ali Khan gives a memorable performance as the evil Langda (Iago in the original). The great thing about this film is that it retains the creepy, menacing atmosphere found in the original play.
![]() | Osama
Buy used from: $1.98 The first film to come out of Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban. It's worth seeing just for that, wouldn't you say? I wouldn't call this a feel-good movie, but it's definitely a very good and fascinating film.
![]() | 3-Iron
Buy new: $16.49 / Used from: $2.99 This film affects you the way that usually only books are able to. Most movies end when the film stops rolling, but I guarantee you will not be able to stop thinking about this and you'll have to watch it one, maybe two more times. It's immensely important in a way I can't really describe.
![]() | Om Shanti Om
Buy new: $35.99 / Used from: $22.90 The fact that out of 16 reviewers, 15 of them gave this movie five stars, should be enough to convince you that it's worth owning. This movie is really fun. How fun? I watched it without subtitles (don't ask) and was still completely entertained.
![]() | Jules and Jim - Criterion Collection
Buy new: $30.99 / Used from: $20.43 The French black and white classic about two best friends who become smitten with a truly bizarre woman who turns both of their lives upside down.
![]() | Moment to Remember (aka: The Eraser in My Head)
I don't love this one quite as much as The Classic, but it's still a great, original sobfest with some very touching scenes.
![]() | Intimates (aka Ji Sor)
This is a great Chinese movie about the relationship between a Ji Sor (a virgin who works in the silk factory) and one of the factory owner's many wives. The two lead actresses are fantastic, and the story is good. I don't know why this movie isn't more well known.
