Saving Private Ryan (Special Limited Edition)Saving Private Ryan (Special Limited Edition)
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $3.88
This is still the best movie on the horror of WWII. The opening 30 minutes treats the realities of war with an unabashed honesty.
Das Boot - The Director's CutDas Boot - The Director's Cut
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $2.54
A splendid war film. The terrors of submarine warfare in WWII are well displayed here.
StalingradStalingrad
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $11.80
This movie displays the horrors of the most terrific conflict of WWII. The Soviets lost over 20 million people to the Nazis in that gigantic fight. Stalingrad was a focus point of the struggle.
The Cruel SeaThe Cruel Sea

Classic movie depicting the humanity of naval personnel at sea.
The Bridge on the River KwaiThe Bridge on the River Kwai
Buy new: $18.49 / Used from: $11.99
Prison camps under the Japanese army were horrible places, far worse than depictions in this movie.
Letters from Iwo Jima / Flags of Our Fathers (Five-Disc Commemorative Edition)Letters from Iwo Jima / Flags of Our Fathers (Five-Disc Commemorative Edition)
Buy new: $44.99 / Used from: $29.99
The battle for Iwo Jima was, perhaps, the most brutal of the Pacific war between Imperial Japan and the United States. But, there was more going on than just combat. People are still people no matter what political boundaries exist.
PattonPatton
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $3.69
The great WWII tank commander caught in the highlights of his personality. Emminently portrayed by George C. Scott, General George Patton comes to life in this bigger than life movie. The movie has some weak points, though, as it does not include the last year or more of Patton's life.
Tora! Tora! Tora! (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)Tora! Tora! Tora! (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $9.16
Not as technically advanced as the horrible "Pearl Harbor" movie, this film garners the history of that day of infamy with much greater power. There is a great cast that is more about demonstrating the history than about wowing an audience with star power.
The Great Escape (2-Disc Collector's Set)The Great Escape (2-Disc Collector's Set)
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $4.99
Steve McQueen is excellent in this story about a group of P.O.W.s held in Nazi prision camp that attempt to make their escape.
Memphis BelleMemphis Belle
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $2.92
A splendid film that captures the irony of dread and heroism that existed for the WWII bomber pilots in Europe.
Enemy at the GatesEnemy at the Gates
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.84
The climax was horrid. Other than that I thought the film was full of the terror of WWII for Soviet citizens forced to fight for their country or die by the hand of their own people. In some cases the men went into combat without weapons to support those that had weapons.
The Guns of Navarone (Special Edition)The Guns of Navarone (Special Edition)
Buy new: $16.99 / Used from: $7.00
A powerful WWII drama.
Sink the Bismarck!Sink the Bismarck!
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $4.98
Other than the U.S.S. Arizona, the Bismarck is probably the most famous warship sinking of WWII. The imperative nature of this undertaking is suitable captured in this film.
Thirty Seconds Over TokyoThirty Seconds Over Tokyo
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $11.49
This is about the daring Doolittle raid on Tokyo in February 1942. It was done in an effort to raise American morale after such a devastating blow had occurred at Pearl Harbor.
MacArthurMacArthur
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $3.97
The personal qualities of this famous American general is finely impressed in this film. His glory and his controversy, in WWII and beyond, are larger than life.
Midway (Collector's Edition)Midway (Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $5.99
A good movie (all star cast) about the battle which turned the tide of the Pacific War for America and against Japan for good.
