Editorial Reviews

Album Description
2009 album from the celebrated Senegalese master-musician. With its subtle blending of Electronic Dance elements and West African musical traditions, the record is a groundbreaking successor to 2001's Missing You. Television was produced jointly by Baaba Maal and Barry Reynolds, once the guitarist with the legendary Compass Point Studio Band, and mixed by Jerry Boys. The album was made in London and Dakar, the Senegalese capital. Baaba Maal worked on its eight songs with various musicians, but most specifically in a collaboration throughout the recording with singer Sabina Sciubba and keyboardist Didi Gutman, both members of New York's Brazilian Girls, who blend electronic dance music with a diversity of eclectic styles. Eight tracks. Palm.

African Contemporary5
Having been raises in Africa, I reach back to roots and have a substantial collection of African music. I have to admit that while I enjoy live shows, I'm often not that into full albums and have many I seldom listen too. Not so with this effort from Baaba Maal .... its a wonderful blend of African and contemporary, with a perfect balance between Baaba & Sabina's voices. Tindo Quando is especially haunting. Be warned: You likely won't be able to stop listening!

Senegalese Music Sublime5
Baaba Maal is probably the most well-known Senegalese musician and singer. In this album he outdoes himself. The songs are a combination of jazzy and rock and he is joined in the last cut by a wonderful female Brazilian singer. Anyone who is interested in, or loves, African music would do well by adding this CD to their collection. It is indeed sublime. NPR featured this album on 'The World' this past week.

Baaba Maal - Un milagro!5
I began listening to a podcast ([...]) of Baaba Maal on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic last week and had to get up out of bed to share it with my husband and son. His music is completely arresting, layered with interesting instrumentation and voices. I downloaded Television and haven't stopped listening to it since. Plan to add every other Baaba Maal album to my collection.
